You do realize, of course, that those XM-L emitters are not going to make 48,000 lumens, 16 or otherwise? And if you decide to modify it with newer emitters, the cost will be prohibitive.
The C8 is loved for it’s compact size and modability, Sofirn is keeping it real in this regard and giving us a very nice light. Imposters can try, but good luck getting what you think your’e getting.
Edit: I even see a claim of a Stainless Steel shell, which would be a high resistance and would actually stop the light from making much headway towards the ludicrous output claims. 3800 lumens from 3 XM-L T6 LED’s? HA! Remember the Lixada 3800 that claimed 3800 lumens from 3 XM-L emitters? Can’t hit 3800 in it with new XM-L2’s and an FET direct drive driver. Interesting light, but it doesn’t even draw my interest and everybody knows I’m a dyed in the wool flashaholic….
16 SST-40s cost $25.6. Not cheap, but not terrible either. Put them on 2s direct drive with a pair of 26350 and have a light that overheats way faster than Emisar D4.
I’d like to see the capability of changing modes using the side switch or a tail switch. This way you can pick up the light however you can if your in a hurry and turn it on asap.
Also, XLP-HI x 3 for more throw.
I’d really like to see all of the goodness of this light put into the Convoy L4 which is a nicer looking light, IMHO. It also has a thicker battery tube and may possibly be able to be bored out to accept a 21700 or 20700 battery. Unfortunately, Sofirn and Convoy are not the same company.
Sofirn is a comparatively young company that listens to it’s consumer base, improvements are made according to the reviews and input garnered there, so don’t be surprised to see Sofirn step up and answer some of the requests people have made, in this or another light entirely. They do have a wide offering, I plan to be purchasing at least several of their other models in the coming weeks…
It’s designed to run on a single high discharge capable 18650. The CR123’s are too high a voltage and wouldn’t be able to deliver the amperage this light needs anyway.
Didn’t know there’s 2 types convoy C8 Stainless bezel! Any way to tell the difference? I just ordered one yesterday from gearbest, wondering now which one I’ll get.
Check this out… just now, 11:30 PM, totally quiet house, the kid’s asleep, was sitting at my desk reading this thread, getting ready to reply to one of Dale’s posts and heard a noise somewhere, picked up my C8F walked out to the living room and immediately saw a bright red light outside, right in front of the window! It’s a taillight! WTF - Right in my front yard! Fast double clicked the C8F and walked out front with turbo blazing, (no shoes on)…
So there’s this SUV sitting right in the middle of my front yard! about 3 feet from my house. I’m beaming the C8F on turbo… lit up the SUV and front yard LIKE DAYLIGHT!
Now I don’t see no one in the SUV, again WTF!! I start shining the light around the yard then a woman appears around the back of the SUV, pretty sure I totally blinded her, as she was holding her hand up over her eyes! She looked harmless so I shined the light downward, she starts asking me where some street number is… she’s looking for her son. I asked if she realized she drove right into my yard! She apologized and I told her which direction to go and she pulled out. whoosh! adrenaline rush!
So the Sofirn C8F was the ultimate “tactical” light tonight! Put that quick access turbo 3000lm to the test!!
