Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

Yes, for instance if you drop the light on its side. The magnet might touch both the battery and the battery tube inner wall. If the inner wall is conductive, some are not, then you will get a short circuit.

The nylon washer around the magnet should prevent any issue, good idea.

Remember, the solder blob only has to allow contact, we’re usually talking about the thickness of the wrap so it doesn’t take much of a solder blob to get that contact. I like doing both cells and alternating how I load them when recharging, sometimes in series one cell will discharge slightly more than the other so alternating them helps keep them in balance.

And yes, 2A is major when you’ve gone to great lengths to get everything possible… if a cell change nets 2A then by all means use it!

I was gonna say, if the long protected cell wont’ fit take the protection circuit off.

i look almost everyday on nkon for the Keeppower to get in stock, still nothing :frowning: is there really a shortage on those cells or? it feels hopeless to find good cells in EU bah…

so I have ordered an xhp70.2 Led for my L6 but I’ve just looked and it is available in 6v or 12v. which is the correct one to use?

thanks in advance

The appropriate one is the 6V.
Will you be running it on the stock driver?

Phew!

thanks Bilakos

It also needs to be 20mm.

The emitter is the same regardless, it’s the board that it’s mounted on where 6V or 12V get’s determined.

And yes, in stock form the original XHP-70 is on a 6V 20mm MCPCB. Mine are all now 26mm MaxTOCH.

I forgot, but will my L6 work with two NCR18650B protected cells? I am looking at these ones. They are 65.5mm flat tops. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B010LTDFBK/ref=pe_1243740_268305490_em_1p_2_ti

Aliexpress sells them but more expensive and ships them to countries that others will not ship too. Many websites that sell keeppower will say out of stock if the country you select is on the list not to ship to such as Canada. Banggood won't ship to canada anymore and says out of stock, but if you choose usa, they are in stock and ready to ship.

They might work but you would need a spacer. The L6 is designed for 26650 batteries

Thanks. I have one of those round spacers that have the springs on either side for contact so that may just work.

Length is not the issue, diameter is.

as you can see in this pic the 26650 on the left 18650 on the right
same length different diameter

Ah, I see. I found some spacers then that would work from an old flash light, thanks.

You can use 18650s as long as you have the spacer, but the NCR18650B is not a great choice for this light because of the cell’s high internal resistance. They will work, but the light output will drop more quickly than with higher performance cells.

Yeah, wasn't sure about that. Hard to get Keeppower 26650's sent to canada with the new laws that was why I was asking.

Gnope. If you’re gonna use 2, you’ll need button-tops. You “can” use small Nd magnets to bridge them, but drop the light and they theoretically can shift and short the positive to the (negative) tube.

Plus, they’re great for up to 3A or so, which is fine for smaller lights, but will limit current to the L6.

Should work fine in lower modes, but…

Or you can try a solder blob to act as a bump, but be careful.

Thanks, I think I may as well just get some good 26650's then.

Yeah, best bet, albeit not the cheapest.

You can still use 18650s, even without sleeves, but they’ll have a tendency to rattle around when the light’s shaken. Otherwise, a thin sleeve (even cardboard from a cereal box  ) can be wrapped around the cells a coupla times to keep them centered and somewhat cushioned.
