Tom E can I get an update on my Q8. I hate to post here but you said the modifications were finished on 11/13-2017 and you just had testing to do. I have sent pms and emails but no response. I figured something got lost in the shuffle but I thought I should say something before it is lost permanently. My q8 was the one sent already in the grenade pouch and original q8 box. You received it on 11/11/17 via USPS padded envelope. I hope everything is well with you.
I am still loving this light, its become my favorite. No issues whatsoever.
Lights things up like crazy! Been showing it to couple people and they are super impressed
Let me guess, you ordered flat top versions of the VTC6? If so, you will need to add solder blobs to the positive posts to raise them higher than the wrapper.
Yes you are right, but adding a small solder blob is not so problematic.
Also I have seen here that the Samsung with a solder top seem to give better contact than the button top Samsung cells.
I’m using samsung 30Q flat top cells in my Q8, the Q8 is working without problems. Can I continue to use flat top cells or do I have switch to button top cells?
Teacher is 100 percent correct on the battery issues. It can be a little difficult to see since all of the q8 batteries are in parallel. In fact the flashlight will work with only one battery. The problem is it just won’t be as bright and it won’t have much run time. I suspect that people who are running flattop batteries in the q8 would be able to see that some of their batteries are not making contact or at least not much contact, after all they just need one to make contact to turn on the light. If you have a good charger it would be obvious that some aren’t connecting if their charge level is full while others of the group are needing charging. Safest bet is to solder a blob on the positive post if you can solder, if you can’t solder then simply buy quality high drain button top batteries. Cheers
