Better? Maybe not. Different and totally unique? Heck yes.
As an aside. I really want to know how a tapered tube is viewed as such a downgrade to this light by some. Yes, the prototype was a parallel/square design, but what is special about that otherwise?
The blasted finish though I can see takes away from the raw look.
Since i still dont have an Emisar D4, i think i have to buy one, why would the FW3A be better?
Why is the FW3A better? Slightly smaller, lighter, nicer clip, metal tail switch, higher regulated modes, cheaper (probably), much fancier firmware.
Why is the D4 better? Sturdier, more emitter/optic/host choices, rubber side switch, higher turbo modes, available today, also comes in throwy D1/D1S flavors.
The original design is more of a fresh off the lathe custom look, this new one is more of an artsy matte bead blasted look.
To be honest, I’m not sure if I’ll go for this light when it is released with the current design.
I really like them both too. I’m not sure which I like better to be honest. I think the original may be prettier and the new may be more practical. I can think of positives to both, but not negatives. I’d really get both, but I’m 100% in for either. Merry Christmas all!
I love the tapered design much more, and I like both finishes. I think Nichia’s (cheaper than XP-G3) would make a better choice for most people, with a $10 up charge for XP-L HI. I know it’s not likely, but a few options of temperature would be nice as well. So far the emitter choice seems to be the only downside to this light.

If you get right down to it, the tapered tube is much better for pocket carry…. nothing to hang up when taking out of pocket.

Thank you for pointing that out TK, i find it difficult making choices, it seems the grass is always greener somewhere else

Just buy both and you’ll be fine

I guess to each his own.
I’m in for either one.. but would not be dissapointed one bit with the latest design. Personally….. I think it looks great.

Please add me to the list for 1.
Merry Christmas Major, and to all other BLFers as well!
I’m liking the prototype!
Please put me down for a second FW3A.
Any chance of those pocket clips being available separately? I’d buy a handful. They look like a great fit for the Emisar line.
Please add me to list!
Oh, what the heck...
Add me to the list as well.

There’s another thread for that one.

crz6662, this is that thread. SkittleStoat is reffering to the change in host design.
Personally, I prefer the old design, but as long as the light works as it is supposed to work, I’m in.
Add me for 1 please.
