Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

What can happen? Which button top cells are the best for Q8?
Thank you.

Unequal discharge because one or more cells is not making contact.

30 Q’s are fine. If they are flattop… just solder boob them.

Teacher is 100 percent correct on the battery issues. It can be a little difficult to see since all of the q8 batteries are in parallel. In fact the flashlight will work with only one battery. The problem is it just won’t be as bright and it won’t have much run time. I suspect that people who are running flattop batteries in the q8 would be able to see that some of their batteries are not making contact or at least not much contact, after all they just need one to make contact to turn on the light. If you have a good charger it would be obvious that some aren’t connecting if their charge level is full while others of the group are needing charging. Safest bet is to solder a blob on the positive post if you can solder, if you can’t solder then simply buy quality high drain button top batteries. Cheers

WHILE I AM AT IT: TOM E PLEASE CHECK YOUR PM’S, OR SEND ONE TO ME ABOUT MY Q8 MOD STATUS.

I’ll add that you could also rip the shrink wrap when twisting on the tube. If that exposes both the positive and negative terminal (the edge of the cell), then poof!

Joey Adams… I am confused. I thought you told us several posts ago that you had your Q8 worked on back in November? ?? Am I mistaken???
Have you used it since TomE worked on it???

Joey, have you tried sending a PM to Tom?

Hmmmm…… It would appear he has since he asked TomE to check his PM’s. Hope Tom is OK……

Missed that…. :person_facepalming:

Oh yea, over and over. Last contact whatsoever was on 11/13/2017. He said modifications were finished and he just wanted to run further tests. I have repeatedly sent pms and emails. I only opted to post publicly after 5 weeks of silence. I hope he is ok, I assume he is though since he is still posting on various threads here on the blf. I admit to be completely perplexed with his silence. I am sure there is a simple explanation, I just haven’t heard it.

Thank you for your answers regarding flat top cells.
30q are already out off q8.

Can I use Panasonic ncr18650b button top? These are only button top cells I have at this moment.
Or should I buy better cells?

Thank you

Panasonic B are fine cells. They don’t produce as many lumens as the 30Q, but they run longer.

It’s best to use 4 identical cells. Same age, number of charges, etc…

Can you add solder blobs to the 30Q? That’s what I would do.

I don’t have solder device.
I will probably buy new cells.
What do you recomend?

30Q are one of the best of the high drain cells. I got 4 button top 30Q for $20 shipped from Banggood on sale. Right now they cost a bit more.

VTC6’s and VTC5’s are also top rated.

Do you know of any electronic repair shops near you. It would take them literally 15 seconds to add a blob to each one. Probably do it for free as well.

Have you considered buying cheap iron and solder and learning to do it yourself? It’s a good thing to know if you like messing with flashlights. Then you can do basic stuff like swapping emitters and drivers. Maybe do some spring bypasses as well. It just takes practice.

I understand that a nice flashlight is out there that you would like to have in your hands but…

It can be hard for a hobbyist to have obligations connected to the hobby. Me, I’m bad at it, I promise people things (usually sending flashlight parts that they even have paid for) and then sometimes it takes me weeks to get to it or I even forget it so I need to be reminded. I’m not proud of that but doing stuff like that takes more effort than simply writing posts on BLF. And because it is not a job but a hobby people who do stuff for others need to be given some slack.

Wow…. Your light was completed 13 November & this is 27 December???

That is 44 days!! And you say you have been emailing & sending PM’s all that time but received no reply……. Nothing

That certainly does not sound like TomE… :open_mouth: …. Nothing…. no reply of any type you say?? For 44 days???

Wow…. hope nothing is wrong with Tom. . :frowning:

Strange. Tom E has been online quite recently; minutes ago. Frustrating for you Joey. I don’t know what to suggest? Should a bunch of us send “hope you are well; Joey needs your attention”PM’s?

I agree MtnDon, both strange & frustrating for Joey Adams I can only imagine. And certainly strange that Tom would not reply in some way at least.

I am at a loss at what to suggest also…… :frowning:

Thank you, I will maybe buy solder and learn something new. :+1:
