ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Received today, 3 SanRenMu’s (from GB, took 3 weeks to arrive)

  • the tiny 7129 : very thin & lightweight, thumbstuds are tiny so a bit harder to flick open. Looks like a tiny version of the Ruike P801.
  • the beefy Land 9046 : blade is chisel grind (with secondary bevel on the main edge), looks a bit tactical for a utility knife but I like it. Also less heavy than I thought.
  • the small fixed blade 7130 : good too, sheath is plastic but very good retention, absolutely no rattling. In picture I have it compared to the Izula clone (supposedly D2 blade steel but I doubt it  ) which is a little bit thicker, with kydex sheath but bit of rattle inside.

All bevels are good, superb fit & finish as (nearly) always with SRM

I’m also waiting for the Little Dragon (why didn’t they name it that way?).

I’m wondering if the animal will grow on me or if I’ll make a scale for it, carbon fiber maybe to make a featherweight knife.

So after my post in this thread a page or two back I got to wondering where my pocket knife is. I seem to have lost it.
So I after researching blade steel I want to try something with CPM-M4. Any suggestions for a budget knife with that?

“CPM-M4” and “budget knife” are usually not in the same sentence

If budget knife means $150 then you should get some Benchmade knives for that price.
With free shipping within CONUS.

Lucky basterds, in Europe knives are twice as expensive, that’s why clones work so well around here.

Yea, that’s what Google said too.
But I figured if it existed, the people following this thread would know about it.

I also compared the SRM 7130 to my Izula copy. For me the handle of the SRM is more comfortable than the Izula thanks to the slightly bigger size. More pics here.

Thanks for the suggestion. Probably more than I want to spend on a knife though.

Although if $150 sounds like too much for the enthusiasts in the thread, I’d like to point out that $150 is less than the cost of eight $20 knives  I bet many people have at least 8.

Need to do further testing, but I tried the counterfeit Izula on dry bamboo (quite hard wood) and the edge lost its sharpness easily… so soft steel. Don’t have a real D2 fixed blade at the moment so can’t compare. Or I need to invest in sisal rope like Pete from Cedric&Ada youtube channel!

Overall I, too, think the SRM is better

I do. But I like to try different shapes and sizes instead of saving on the grail knife which then wouldn’t satisfy me.

My first expensive (and still the most expensive) knife was a CRK TiLock clone for $140. I use it sometimes but not on a daily basis.

With wife and 2 little kids I prefer a great SRM Land 910+ with selfmade cf scales instead of expensive cutlery.
I just sharpened it and it’s scary how sharp their Sandvik is getting and impressive how well it holds an edge. I paid $11 iirc.

What budget sharpening system is everyone using for their budget knives?

Let us know what knives you ordered

I have not had any problems with standard one handed opening with lock pocket knives with blades up to 4 inches. May have problems with flippers unless pivot tightened to stop flipper working. Self opening/flick will get seized.

I am very happy with fake Edge Pro, fake Wicked Edge and fake Lansky from Aliexpress all with some pros and some cons for different knives - use them on all of my fake clone knives to achieve perfectly satisfying sharpness. :innocent:

I use a clamp and a piece of thick leather to fix the knife on the table with the blade hanging over the edge.
Then I use a medium diamond file followed by a Victorinox Sharpening file.
The knife rest is useful for cooking knives, I plan to upgrade it with rare earth magnets.

After that I use a leather strop with chromium oxide. This setup is enough to sharpen a knife that can whittle hair.

Sorry guys, I do not understand why in daily deals page on GB, the Ganzo G727M-W1 – COLORFUL/wood handle – is on flash sale for the faboulus price of 9,99$ (50% off), but when I click on it, it give me 12,99$ on my cart, so another price…

At 9,99$ I will give it a try.

Same thing here. I don’t know… maybe a glitch

Or maybe thay have forget to put the discount code on the image.
I saw many other knives in offert; they all have a code.

Usually the code is the item code, like S7010LUC-SA for that Sanrenu.

There’s an existing code “G727M-W1” but the system said it’s expired.

I’d say though if you like the knife and want to try it, get it for $13 and remember how easily you spend $30 in your supermarket, not to mention $3

Also be happy that they don’t ask for $7 shipping to your country (which at least is holding me back from ordering too many knives).
