3×26500 in series, if they fit length-wise, connected to 3 XPL in series would make a bright light.

I know the description says, “casing material:aluminum” but I can’t shake the feeling that is wrong. I was looking at all the flashlights on the home Depot shelves last week and I would have bet money that it was plastic based on my memory (which has been known to be wrong from time to time, ask my wife). If it is plastic, forget any dreams of putting 3×26650 and 3x(any real well driven LED) in it.

I have one and it looks , feels and sounds—when you tap it— like it’s aluminum !
However of course keep in mind , there’s a saying “Looks can be deceiving “ .

OK if you have one then your info is better than mine, I was just basing it on a very fuzzy memory of a light I didn’t even look that closely at. So I’m very likely wrong in this case. Carry on!

Probably nothing needs to be done, other than find something to fill the rest of the tube with since a single 18650 (or 26650) will have similar voltage to 3xC cell.

So on that note, what’s the easiest way to fill remaining space in the tube? Are there some adapters out there?

DIY pointers welcome.

I'm using 2P 18650's with no issues or other mods.  Pretty nice light.  I pulled down my protype pics because I was worried others might copy them and there was some risk with the design.  Dchomak made a very nice version here.

I grabbed 2 of these for Christmas presents. Good gifts for old people who cough at anything new like unfamiliar batteries.

This light comes out every year about this time. In the past they have always been 850 lumen with the 3 emitters. Here is a shot of one I picked up a couple of years ago.

Notice that the emitter in the upper left is larger than the other 2. It looks like an XP-G2
When I do a search for the SKU# 1001396908 on the HD site I get 2 different hits. 1 for an 850 lumen light and 1 for a 1000 lumen light.

In the gift section in the stores they display the 1000 lumen one.

At the time I checked the 3 emitters and all 3 look like XP-G2’s Probably why the light is now rated at 1000 lumen

Thanks. What is the beam pattern like? Im guessing somewhere in between a thrower and a flooder? Can the strobe be bypassed? Im guessing no.

It is probably a perfect combination of the 2. This is the perfect gifting light for the non flashaholic.

Awesome I will go check them out at my home depot looks like a nice light. Regarding the sizes of the led’s do you think those two smaller ones are the old production xp-g2’s and the larger one, the new production led?

Just picked up ours from home depot today. I am just a noob but the light shines great. Its a good combination of flood/thrower. Even the little $10 lights were a good surprise. We can use the $10 ones and put them in the “Box Of Lights” for general everday use. And that would allow me to keep my better lights stored for emergencies. Great gift items. I will definitely be getting more while they last.

can you measure the id of the tube?
if 26650 fit a spacer dummy makes this more versatile.

I don’t have calipers, so I can’t provide an accurate measurement. It looks to be about 1 and 1/32”, so about 26.2mm. The C cells are pretty loose in there and rattle away when the tailcap is screwed on. Maybe some 26650 cells would fit?

There’s your answer.
There wouldn’t be room for a 2P mod, and I would worry about the strip on a protected 26650 shorting out if only 1 cell is used. You would have to make a spacer anyway.
And a 2P setup with 2 – 18650’s would have more capacity.

This is last years 850 lumen model

Hello, I bought this recent version of the light to gift to a co-worker but discovered a Husky 500 lm version with an XP-G3 that will better suit the use. So, what do I do? … test it! I was happy to see a Shockli 26650, 4200 mAh fits and pulls +7 amps at the tail end. Beam pattern has a lot of artifacts but the trifoil-shaped spill and long throwing, neutral white beam aren’t too bad.

My question is who makes the LED?

Emisar D4 (Nichia & XP-L), Convoy L2, S2&+ w/XP-L, S6, M2, iProtec 1400, Nitenumen 'C8', Fenix HL50 & HP12, XinTD C8, Manker E11, D25LC2 Mini, Sofirn SP31 & SP 33, Thorfire TK15, Thrunite Ti3, various Ultrafire, Defiant 3C triple (2017),...

I have the 850lm Defiant one. Looks like three Cree XM-L2 emitters. It’s ok for a “throw in the back trunk and use it for emergencies” kinda light. That’s about it. It’s build quality is very cheap. It’s bright for what it is but I doubt it really is the claimed 850lm. The light included three Defiant branded C cell batteries. The head is glued on so I’m not going to even bother taking it apart. I would not bother trying to mod such a light as you’d be better off spending your money on a more worthy project.

That’s the reason I buy them too. I replace the batteries with primary lithium AAs so the the light works when I need it.
I actually bought the 850 lm light you have but returned it because I didn’t see any improvement over my 3C DST.
One thing to note, this light and a 500 lm Husky I bought this year have modes, flashy good for emergency signaling. And this is an improvement over single mode lights previously sold. The best part is that they are CHEAP!

Does anyone have teardown photos of the 2017 edition of this light?

Too many streetlights, not enough flashlights.

Hey guys, I finally picked up the 1000 lumen version of this light. Anyway to MOD to accept 26650? BTW, I also have the Husky 650 lumen 3 D cell light. Again how to MOD? Please advise. BTW, if any of you do MODS and charge a labor fee I will hire a helping hand.

FYI: HomeDepot listed a 1200 lumen version of this light. Can’t add it to cart though.
