EDIT: sorry I meant directly

I wonder what’s the warranty period of The GT since it has driven the led that hard. I hope it is put shorter than 3 months so that newbies won’t buy it and complain later. Sure that there are flashlights drive led very hard too, but they are with much higher price.

Is the warranty claim considered in price equation for The GT?

And switch on Turbo. :smiling_imp:

Spartan, I have much experience in building throwers, as much as anyone here. I like a cooler white in my throwers, and I didn’t keep the 4000K emitter in my GT for more than a few hours. As soon as I managed to break into the GT the emitter was swapped.

I have another GT in hand now, I wasn’t planning on opening it up as I intend to gift it, but I will open it and put one carrier in each light, using the same cells of which I have 8 matched. I will then attempt the same 1.9 mile beam shot at the water tower that I did last night and see if the warm 4000K hits the tower as well, better, or less than the cool white I swapped into my first GT. I will then report back soon after the test, tomorrow evening. With beam shots.

If the warm orange spot I saw in my first one doesn’t illuminate the tower to my satisfaction I will be swapping it out in the second GT before gifting occurs next month. Regardless of how the test comes out, I will not be using the 4000K in my personal light. I detest the color. Pure and simple.

ARSee, press the end of the bezel against a car tire (remove stones first in the treads) and use the tire to grip the bezel so you can twist it off. Worked for me.

This guy knows what’s up ^
Thanks for pitching in DB

Let me say now that the recent scratch build of my 6th scratch built light ALSO hits the tower at 1.9 miles, using a sliced/diced/shaved SST-40 emitter that was listed at 6500K before it’s surgery. It’s running 2400 lumens from a single 32650 cell on a simple FET+1 driver equipped with the A6 firmware.

Regardless of how many lights or how much experience Spartan may or may not have, my 160 lights and my 400+ build experience still leads me to a neutral or cool white emitter for best throw. It’s not just my eyes, but also the eyes of those I have built for over the past 4 years or so.

I think you have a genuine misunderstanding of the terms of this kind of group buy.

This thread provides the project information and the emitter change was not an unknown or unexpected development before the financial transactions occurred. That the desired “cooler” emitter wasn’t available was also known. I can appreciate that you may not have been tracking this thread for a long time but still, this is a sublime example of caveat emptor.

As for your statement about perception; I place more value on technical and practical merits than on perceptions. I have truly learned from reading the developments and knowledge in this thread and that is probably worth more to me than the hardware itself.

Dale, that comparison would be amazing. Thank you!

I think your disappointment all boils down to you mistaking a video of a prototype light as some type of official commercial for it.

I rewatched Matts original GT video and he clearly says he was showing a prototype, that the printed name “giggles” was a one off feature and to take the things in the video with a “box” of salt.

Granted, the old post #1 on this GT thread was kind of hard to find specific info on the light, but under pricing and emitters it did say - XHP35-HI NW.

As with any flashlight purchase, if your sensitive to emitter colors, then it’s important to find this information before you buy. If you don’t see it listed, you should ask. Many, many, many questions have been asked in this thread. If you had asked, it would have been answered.

I’m not a fan of NW either. I prefer cool white, which is why I have not bought a Q8, even though I signed up early and helped out where I could with its design.

With the GT, I think it’s just a matter of time before someone starts selling different temperature emitters on a properly sized mcpcb. For $10 to $15 you can buy whatever color you prefer. As long as you can solder two wires, it’s an easy thing to swap out. I plan to swap mine out, even though the stock color is not too bad.

I hope you enjoy your light.

When is the next run?

Thank you…… :+1: …

They are being built & shipped at the rate of 150 - 200 a week.

As far as the next group of payment PM’s…. They will be sent after most of the standing orders are filled, according to TA.
That will ’most likely’ be a couple of weeks.

Group buy is closed.

Since human eyes adapt to environment, light source color tint and perceived objects, i wonder you can do a non biased test on these two lights. Somemore the object is far away, your brain might fool you one light is better for example you might take shorter time to recognize a distanced object when you shine on it second time.

I meant to say is there a better designed test methods for this kind of comparison.

I not jump in q8 cause it nw and i think for flood light i still have m6 and mf01.

But for gt, no light (right now) like this giant thrower…

Yes i buy gt and planned to swap emitter even i never do that before…

Hope will find on youtube how to do that… or hi… Dale how to changed your gt led?
