Two more great examples of “crappy extremes”! .

They both look “unnatural”……

  And here again…. this is a general observation. Not to be confused with a complaint.
  It remains the same no matter the light host.

I also find it hard to believe, as has been stated in many threads & discussions besides this one; that “most people” prefer the one on the right.

Nor do I think that “most people” who liked a cooler side of WHITE would prefer the one on the left.

I think neither of these “examples” are preferred by “most people” . .

yep, its matts latest video.
thought id snip a few stills of it, because its hard to tell when the lights are moving fast , like in the video
gives you a chance to really compare the 2 beams
anybody know what the actual kelvin was on that giggles proto he had in the video ?
it really does look horribly white and ghostly in the pics

If you don’t read thread as often, you can ask about the tint in the thread.

I understand some people’s hesitancy to ask in the GT thread, some members were being told they were lazy for not looking over the 13,000 posts for answers……. 13,000!!!
And they were being told they were out of line for cluttering up an already busy thread.
I don’t understand that rational at all.
It literally added more “clutter” once the members got a reply to say “you are lazy”, then they replied and so on and so on…. whereas a simple answer would have sufficed.

The simple answer was most often about 2 posts above the question - it is not unreasonable to expect a minimum effort - this situation happened over and over

As soon as I managed to break into the GT the emitter was swapped.

Is it glued or just hard to grip because of the huge head?

It’s not glued, but it’s really tight. I think the o-rings also make it extra hard to turn.

Just curious what hes going to compare his newly aquired BLF GT too, why is that so hard to answer?

Oh, it seemed like you were going to criticize him if he didn’t have many flashlights, or didn’t have any warm white flashlights, or something like that.

What do I have to gain from critizing an unknown individual on an online enthusiast flashlight forum that I will never meet IRL? Nothing, If he wants to be ignorant and accuse me of something that was never my intention then so be it. Sorry.

…I think what gave your intention away and alerted that fact to me (and clearly others) was your choice of words which put across a sense of something other than a genuinely helpful intent to assist someone by finding out what flashlights they would be comparing the GT to…

…and I think you already know all that… I just think you’re not upfront and open enough to own it.

Do we think Lumintop may eventually sell the MCPCB’s as a spare part? or maybe Neal could supply them to BLF members?

I would most likely want to change mine to around 5000k, Not that I hate the current tint I honestly prefer it to the blue 6500k color. But with my experience level, the last thing I would want to do would be ruin something and put my GT out of action. A second MCPCB I could attempt to reflow would be good, just in case.

Just in case some newbies get misled/confused into believing GT led is warm white since the warm word used quite a lot. 4000k is not warm white, some called it warm neutral. Well, we can’t stop people from creating terms they seem fit. I like to follow simpler term.
If things were perfect and GT team managed to put 4500k led in there as stock light, it will not be the white those who modded GT are after. They will put higher than 4500k in GT because 4500k is very closed to 4000k. It is subjective preference thing. Those who are very critical about this should ask and confirm before placing order.

Just a comment on those images/movies about the varying tints, not one of them mentioned what the cameras white balance was set to.
If I took an image of a 3000k light beam with my camera set to 3000kelvin it would show as white, the same for a cool white at 7500k if the white balance was set to 7500kelvin.
The point is that without the knowledge of the cameras settings you can’t even judge the throw

The above I think will be a bigger problem than what some will have expected… you should NEVER set people’s expectations to one thing and then it be something else when it arrives… even if certain numbers can ‘prove’ it’s performance is the same or even better… it’s the perception of the recipient based upon the expectations set which counts.

I watched the first Giga thrower YT vid… was amazed and wanted one… which made me order.

Looks like there’s more than a fair chance i’ll now be returning the light… HATE warm beams… they had those in the 1800’s with candles…!!!

I think your disappointment all boils down to you mistaking a video of a prototype light as some type of official commercial for it.

I rewatched Matts original GT video and he clearly says he was showing a prototype, that the printed name “giggles” was a one off feature and to take the things in the video with a “box” of salt.

Granted, the old post #1 on this GT thread was kind of hard to find specific info on the light, but under pricing and emitters it did say - XHP35-HI NW.

As with any flashlight purchase, if your sensitive to emitter colors, then it’s important to find this information before you buy. If you don’t see it listed, you should ask. Many, many, many questions have been asked in this thread. If you had asked, it would have been answered.

I’m not a fan of NW either. I prefer cool white, which is why I have not bought a Q8, even though I signed up early and helped out where I could with its design.

With the GT, I think it’s just a matter of time before someone starts selling different temperature emitters on a properly sized mcpcb. For $10 to $15 you can buy whatever color you prefer. As long as you can solder two wires, it’s an easy thing to swap out. I plan to swap mine out, even though the stock color is not too bad.
