Lens for SK98

I have decided to mod my (not as described) fasttech SK98.

With stock components, even when fully extended, the beam widens out at a distance.
I have ordered new led and driver an am looking for recommendations for a better lens. Only thing I could find by searching was recommendations for Kaidomain.

Thanks

Take a look at these stores, maybe they have something nice! I’ve bought some TIR lenses and clear lenses from both and had no problem with them so far!

Thanks I will check them out.
I’m not too sure how to go about getting the right one for a sk98 zoomie though.

Do you already have you flashlight? If so, check the diameter of the lens’ basis and you start from there! It is better if you have a caliper, but it can also work with a ruller!
Then, for the height if the lens, do the same thing, measure from bottom to top!

When searching on the stores, you can use the measures as basis for you!

Also, you can check on the forum for other threads of users that have Sk98 flashlights and see if they already have measures!
Another thing you may want to check is about mods of this light, as I think I’ve seen some turning the zoomie into a triple light

Hope it helps :+1:

Thanks for the tip about measuring with calipers. I will do that. I hadn’t thought about measuring the lens width!
Yes I already have it. Ive got a new led and driver on order. Ive already soldered some copper pennies together and filed them down etc for better heat sinking.

:+1:
I guess it will help you to determine what lens to chose
Nice idea about the copper pennies! I did something like that time ago, but didn’t use the best coin to help heatsink :person_facepalming: Well, we always start somewhere, so I guess the copper will be better for that!

Show us your mod when it’s done :+1: Good work with that! :sunglasses:

How do you remove the head/zooming mechanism to change the LED.

The head of the flashlight is made of 2 different parts (exterior)! 1 is the bezel and the other is the “sliding” mechanism. Unscrewing the bezel, it allows to take out the lens, to remove the “sliding” part and to access the pill and the LED.
Normally the pill is screwed in the body of the flashlight, so you just have to unscrew it

Hopes this helps! :+1:

I’m curious about what lens options are available for the sk98 as well. Let us know what you find and what ends up working well!

Thank you, MascaratumB

Yes when trying to undo the head, the focusing ring turns but not the head itself.

The trick was to remove the lens and brass looking retaining ring that sits on top of the LED. Then you can grip the edge of both parts of the tube with some pliers and it should unscrew. I used a piece of cloth inbetween so as not to scratch anything.

So Far I’ve installed a Convoy Biscotti Driver, bypassed the tailcap spring and added the extra copper.
Tests with a luxmeter indicate I have gone from 2150 cd to 5725 cd. That’s Just a bit more that my BLF A6 (nowhere near the overall lumens of course) It gets hotter than the A6 too so I’m guessing the heatsinking is working nicely. Still got new XP-L Hi on Noctigen to arrive. All done with tips from this forum. On the lens front I think I need one with a focal length about 11 or 12mm as this is the movement the lens has from the LED…but no luck sourcing so far.
