I have a couple of friends coming over this weekend for an emitter swap party, we’ll probably do a 50M test on all our GT’s after the swap. They ordered D4 emitters at 5700K from Richard, I found some E4 5700K at Arrow in HD trim, have them on the way and will try slicing the dome off and chemical de-dome, see which works better. The Cree datasheet lists the HD D4 at 550 lumens at the 350mA test level, the E4 does 717 lumens at the same level. So I hope to get a clean slice and replicate the HI and see 2400-2500 lumens out the front in mine. A buddy told me that Coleman lantern fuel does very clean de-domes with little tint change, I aim to try that.

We will have 4 GT’s here this Saturday, should prove interesting. Smile

Dale, I’m just curious if you’ve considered trying to de-dome an XHP35HD to compare?

The GT handle proto is finished. I’ll get some pictures posted up later this evening when I get home.

Looks good, very simple design but very functional. (I thought about an exact same handle design after you had said that it can be made ambidextrous)

Thought I remember seeing that minimum distance for measurement was 40 meters or at least something further than you used because beam convergence has not occurred at the shorter distance?

At 5 m i got 850000 at 10m i got 1,1150,000, at 15m i got 1,270,000.I,m gonna try and do 20m when i get the chance.

don’t think so. Imo there were no registered mail shipments so far. Latest DHL shipments didn’t got a tracking code.

You need minimum 20m distance for a light with a reflector as large as the GT.

Is there any particular reason the waybill number of the DHL shipments aren’t being supplied to people? I see a lot of people not getting their tracking.

I bet this is a first for DHL, sheer number of people calling over the same package. (essentially)

I have plans to slice some HD’s and de-dome others, picked up some fuel to do just that about an hour ago. Smile

Emitters will be here tomorrow. Dang cold front is here TODAY! Dropped 20º after I left the house and before I could get back. Wind is roaring. Literally was 68º when D and I left, supposed to be 29º tonight… 46º now and still dropping. My neck feels like it’s got a pair of vice grips clamped on the front, dang cold fronts. Silly

Now that you brought it up, you gotta do it! That was me with the 4X Shooter rig. Big Smile

That reminds me, I have some photos to post in the Q8 thread… Wink

I could only assemble a single GT dumbbell with the help of my friend’s GT. You can make a pair! Party

You can run two carriers back-to-back with an insulator between them and both heads will work. Ask me how I know. Big Smile

Nice! I went for a walk with mine last night and I definitely need a strap or a handle or something. How does the handle work in terms of comfortably carrying? So far, the most comfortable way of carrying it seems to be over the shoulder like an axe.

An inexpensive sling used cross body is an extremely comfortable way to carry the light. You don’t have a cold climate but anyone in a cold climate holding aluminum will quickly regret it and the colder the climate the more pronounced the effect. Aluminum wicks heat away from the hand just as rapidly as it does the same to the light. Of course a handle like that is extremely easy to insulate and gloves can be worn. I think it’s a great idea.

Yes. You are #1635 on the sign up list.

So far only the people up to #1049 have gotten purchase info. Production of the lights is slow compared to a smaller light, like the Q8, so we are giving Lumintop and Neal some extra time to fill these first 850 or so orders.

It may be another week or two before Texas_Ace decides to send out the rest of the purchase PM’s to #1050 and above.

The latest report is that ~500 lights have shipped. So another 2-3 weeks till the next round of PM’s go out is a reasonable estimate.

Sorry, I thought you said you got a tracking info or shipping notice. No worries, though. I removed you. This is just a general list to see how Neal is shipping things.

The ANSI-FL1 standards measure the distance out until the light gets to 0.25 lux. This would be equivalent to moonlight on a full moon with a clear sky. So I’m guessing your water tower was being hit by less than 0.25 lux.

In theory, each individual photon travels out to infinity unless stopped by some object. It’s just radiation after all. All those billions/trillions of photons eventually spread out over distance.

Enderman or another reflector designer, what is the designed beam angle on the GT reflector?
