BLF GT cases, soft or hard

Woaw! What a case! A tad on the large size isn’t it?
Not sure i should applaud or advise to get help! - lol
With a couple BLF A6 and a charger, you’d have the ultimate portable BLF shrine. Well done!

I also plan on getting a similar hard case, but smaller. I’ve never tried cutting/carving foam… How does it go?

One for the ladies?

I was thinking exactly that (the 3 lights)… and now I’m thinking how “next level” can we make this?

Possible kit contents:
i) Lights

  1. GT
  2. Q8
  3. A6
  4. 348 (possibly more than one)
    ii) Charger(s)
iii) Space for separate/extra batteries (in waterproof boxes? (in the waterproof case!))
    iv) GT lens cap
    v) GT strap/handle
    vi) Replacement parts (which, though?)

For the charger I’m considering one of these:
a) 1 x Nitecore i8 (8 slots @ 0.5A)

  • if you are going for looks and not charging speed (especially if you are rationalizing buying all of this by it being a gift for someone who isn’t going to fiddle with buttons on the charger)

b) 1 x GyrFalcon All-88 (8 slots @ 1A)

c) 1/2/3 x Miboxer C4-12 (4 slots @ 3A) if you have money to burn

Are there any other chargers to consider here?
I’m leaning towards the Nitecore i8 since the package will be a gift to someone who won’t mess with any buttons. (In line with that, I’ve set the GT to “Mode-set” 1 (100%, 2A). Is there any data on how much an XHP35’s life is shortened by overdriving it at 2.5A instead of overdriving it at 2A?)

To fit all of this, could we find someone to design a “configurable” foam cutout (where you only remove enough cut pieces of foam to fit the lights+accessories you want)? Two points against this: it implies a single case size which will be too big for some contents + won’t look as nice if it’s half empty.

Have bought two of the cases. OP #1 is too small for the GT, can not even zip it closed with the GT inside. OP #2 is very cheaply made and will probably fit two GT’s inside, too large, only very thin padding on one side.

Here’s how well the GT fits in the case I linked earlier. The dimensions are pretty perfect, and the case is super padded.

Looks good - I like the padding.

About the Op/Tech USA hood hat in the picture, what “style” (size) is it, and do you think it’s the perfect size from Op/Tech USA’s selection?

Another very good one from srwaite HERE

My wife bought a camera bag from lowepro years ago, the quality of their bags is fantastic!
High quality, very well padded.

Maybe i will buy this one as well, when i’m accustomed to the price :sunglasses:

Just perfect size, added my charger (the star vp4) and a shoulder strap.
Still need to put some batteries in there.
I used 3 layers of ‘pick and pluck foam’.

This is what I bought. Scaled to size

Plenty of room for all the necessities

Ape Case ACPROLC18 Professional Large Lens Case, Black/Yellow

The GT fits nicely with room to spare

I’m using the XL, fits very well like it was custom made for the GT.

The one pictured looks maybe a bit bigger maybe XXL? If that’s the case, looks like either one would be fine.

Where did you get the foam? need some new for my peli case.

This one is the XXL. It’s maybe a little looser than I’d prefer, but I do like that I can get it on and off with one hand, and it’s not going to slip off that easily on its own. I hear people saying that the XL fits perfectly, but it looked a little tight to me in pictures.

You’ve got PM ;).

The Ape Cases arrived. See this post for images.

I like it! :+1:

Maybe add a piece of fiber board, nylon/lexan plastic to the bottom to protect the head and glass lens.

Looking at getting a UCLp lens for both of mine, but haven’t heard back from Chris yet

The bottom is double padded. Easily 1" thick. Add the OP/Tech hoodie on the light and you're good to go!

Glad your confident in your set-up, I’ll add a 1/8’’ piece of fiber board/Lexan because I’m not!

Just got my OP/Tech hoodie today (XL), I sort of regret not getting the XXL, the XL is a very tight fit when putting it on. From the looks of it, the XXL is definitely not going to come off and its dimensions seem to be a better match for the BLF GT.

I may add something. I'm not sure yet. I was thinking about something cylindrical, that the head of the GT slipped down in too.

Spare batteries are my first thought. A piece of foam the thickness (length of) 18650 batteries. Cut out so the battery tube of the GT slides through, w/8-18650's (individually) around the circumference with a handle of made of strap material attached to lift it out. Here's a sketch.

I have the XXL now. It works fine. Not as snug and it stays put. I however did the opposite of you. I ordered two of the XL that are not here yet!!

Question for those who got the Op/Tech Hood Hat - Is it neoprene only or does it have a stiffener/piece of plastic along the bottom as well?

The reason I ask is because I went with the LensCoat Hoodie. It is more expensive, but there is also a pocket on the bottom of the sleeve which contains a thin piece of plastic which has additional padding on one side.
