Astrolux MF03 - new pictures + video

Are the 70.2 using reflectors or tir optics? I can’t really tell from the picture.

This is one neat looking light. You know you’re going to get some people riled up with this teaser. Do you gain pleasure from this? :disappointed:

If you look at the right side you could see the reflectors in those three LED wells. It looks like that there is a reflection in the glass of a white background which makes it appear to be tir optics.

Not good use of the front area…and very, very floody.

We knew it would be 8 x 70.2 and 1 xhp35-HI. Are you surprised by this picture?

How could you make better use?

You can’t make the 70.2 reflectors any bigger. They have to be floody, but at the same time you also can have good throw with the center reflector. I see no other design options.

Can we get the driver specs to Lexel, TexasTA and whoever else can start designing a good driver for this? It can’t hurt Astrolux to share that info since there’s no way they’ll make a driver that will satisfy all of us, probably not even half of us. Play the game Ford does with the Mustang, and get the pertinent info out there so the aftermarket is ready with mods, which will help drive even more sales.

This has to be at least 25000lm.

One xhp70.2 makes easily 4000lm, so 32000lm only from the xhp70.2s + 2500lm from the xhp35= at least 34.500lm.

Driven to the max, the xhp70.2s can produce >9000lm a piece (>70.000lm total). Very big moding potential here… I guess the cells only will limit this flashlight.

I would be very disappointed if this light dont outthrow DX80( i hope it will be over 40000 lumen)

What about the heat dissipation? Outperforming DX80 means it’s at least 32000lm and i heard a lot of DX80 have the half light up 70.2 problem.

I am very surprised. DX80 manages to use way more of its frontal area.

I would make the reflectors bigger too. The outer size of the reflectors would be bigger than we can see, but there should be some place to use.
Or better, make the reflectors from one piece of aluminium with maximum reflector size without overlapping.

The Texas Avenger driver will not work in this light due to the dual switches and dual emitter sizes. Astrolux is probably combining 2 different drivers into a single pcb or else using 2 pcb stacked to drive it.

I believe Astroluxs driver design will be kept secret and not made available to anyone. Sorry.

On the other hand, if you want to forget about powering the xhp35 and just use the 70.2’s, then the current TA driver will work fine for that. It will only use one of the switches.

It does not have the xhp35 with large reflector, though. :person_facepalming:

Do you know how hard and expensive it is to do that?
Might even be impossible.

One reason why it is less necessary for the MF03 to maximise reflector size by overlapping them is because of the huge center XHP35 that takes the primary care for throw: the DX80 has no choice but to maxise mini reflector size for throw.
Of course you can get more throw nevertheless by increasing reflector diameter (and a bit of length)…
I do think it is aesthetically very pleasing like this, and the beam will also be artifact free. :sunglasses:

Yes, the price would kill this idea. I have thought about it while I was writing my idea.
Its “still” an Astrolux Flashlight with low price and therefore this is not doable.
