The ThorFire TK05 is a brand new AA (14500 Button Top Unprotected compatible as well) flashlight with a side e-switch and a Cree XP-G3 LED. The styling is nice with crenellations on the bezel, but nothing sharp that can tear up your pants. It has very large textured knurling that gives the light a nice feel in your hands. It seems solid and is a good pocket friendly size, it fits comfortably in the watch pocket of jeans with just a little bit sticking out from the pocket.
The TK05 has three modes plus a hidden strobe mode. According to the manual, they are 5 lumens, 70 lumens, 240 lumens on an AA battery and 13 lumens, 100 lumens, 600 lumens on a 14500. I don’t have any way to confirm that but it was very comparable to my Olight S1.
The LED tint is 5350-5700K. I feel it’s more to the cool side, well at least mine was. The hotspot is on the blue side but very nice for EDC use and transitions well into a large spill, the orange peel reflector I’m sure has a lot to do with what I thought was a useful beam of light
The beam pattern as you’d expect from a small EDC flashlight with a narrow and shallow reflector, its very floody with a nice spill. The TK05 is good for close range work light for close up inspections on low mode or even lighting up a small back yard on high.
The UI operation is pretty standard. Short Press and release the side switch to turn on the flashlight, A Long press and hold to turn off the light. When on, press the button to advance modes. Double click from any mode to activate strobe. It has no electronic lockout, but a good positive physical lockout is easily achieved by a slight twist of the tail cap. It has mode memory and will come on in the last mode it was in.
The TK05 feels good in the hand. The anodizing is good and held up good after a week of EDC, including work. The side button protrudes from the tube a bit and I was concerned about accidentally activation but it never happened all week. The one thing I would like to see an improvement on is maybe a larger rubber switch that is recessed or at least flush, even though it does stick up a bit I had a hard time finding it in the dark.
Conclusion, I feel the TK05 is a very nice light and it held up very well to a week of carry with no problem, I’d give it a 9 out of 10 (new switch and neutral LED would make it a 10) I like the UI, I like the size, I like the pocket clip and just the whole package was very nice. This will definitely be part of my EDC Flashlight rotations.
