Low-cost copper pills, spacers, optics, drop-ins (Updated 23/10/2022))

Just recieved 2 Quad P60 pills with retaining ring and 2 optic encloser kits. Top notch quality as always. Absolutely worth the wait.

I have to make more custom retaining rings for one project soon, but still dont have any feedback about previous ones (that came with S2+ pills and P60 shells). What do you think about cut width? How do you screw them hard (what tools do you use)?
18mm rings have thin cuts (I decided that cut shouldnt be wider than ring thickness to save this part rigid enough) and they are not comparable with most retaining ring pliers. I prefer screw it down (without driver spring installed) with stainless steel ruler. Should I make the cuts wider next time? I dont feel using retaining ring pliers for screwing brass rings, they can damage it with ease.
Note: Im talking about thin rings that can take two-side drivers, common decision with two holes in thick ring is not suitable for this situation.

Well, even if I’m not using the ring and the pill - yet (I’m still missing the other components for the build) - I feel comfortable about the ring and its dimensions.

This is a photo of your S2+ pill with the custom ring and a driver from Lexel. It is double sided and has 6*7135 chips on the back! It fits perfectly and can be screwed in easily before being in the flashlight! So far I had no problem. And that is the reason why I ordered more.

Although I grinded 2 “normal” rings of regular S2+ pill, it doesn’t have the same effect, as we lose the “holes/cuts” to help screwing in the ring. Normal S2+ pill and grinded ring on the left and kiriba-ru’s S2+ pill for triple mods on the right.
Your custom ring, for double sided drivers is pretty nice!!

What tools do you use to screw/unscrew my ring? As for me it looks little damaged. Not sure it is possible to avoid edges of cuts from bending when it is made from brass.

Hum, I normally use pointed tweezers, not to unscrew the ring, but the pill when it is inside the flashlight’s tube!
Therefore the border of the pill is a bit “scratched”. But the ring is okay.
I normally use flat tip tweezers to unscrew the ring from the pill. It helps to rotate it better once the cut is transversal to the reing! It’s just like the metal ruller, but with small surface.
For the “regular” ring , I use pointed tip tweezers!

I haven’t found nothing “wrong” with your ring so far. I only (un)screw it in or out when the pill is out of the flashlight tube, so it is not hard to (un)screw the ring. Even when the driver is like the one in the photos, with lots of chips on the back!

My order should arrive in 2 or 3 weeks, I can give feedback about your thin retaining ring then. As the ring is very thin, I imagine pointed tweezers will be kinda hard to use because they might slip, but since assembly will happen with the pill removed from the flashlight, it won’t be hard to find a tool for it

Still have more than 1m (40 inches) 40mm OD copper rod, open for any ideas how to use it.

I agree that parts should not cost more than stock flashlight.
But lets calculate it clearly.
pp fee =$2
Shipping+packaging+my insurance =$8
pill is OD 42x20mm length - blank size OD 45x28 (incl cut width) ~400gr Cu *$15/kg =$6
Threads are calibrated with rare die, if I devide its cost by quantity of d01 pills I`ve ever made - extra $2
Remaining balance for machining is $12. Surely, if you order 100 of them you can devide this part by 3 and exclude previous line. But for 1-2pcs quantity I cant provide better price/quality ratio.

I know kiriba, I know. I had some CU parts made locally, not cheap at all.
But you know the feeling, like when you find something nice from china (taobao for example), good price, you contact them and they quote you 5 times more expensive shipping than the product itself and you can do nothing about it. I like suporting small bussineses but when shipping company make more than you get for your work then thats not cool by me (and I was in this situation several times)…

Is this a Convoy C8 special option? I just received a whole lot of 4500K 219b’s in R9080 from Clemence, and I’m hoping to convert my old C8 into a triple or a quad. I was disappointed to see that you don’t have any C8 triple kits anymore.

Yes, Convoy C8.

Thanks kiriba-ru,

received my order today and all looks excellent.

just waiting on my LED board and ill be good to go.

Recieved today my C8 triple spacer and M2 quad kit. As always quality and packaging are top notch. Excellent parts.

Received my order today n
And couldn’t be happier. I might be been a little late to bed… or not gone to sleep yet because I just couldn’t wait to get everything built. Absolutely no issues whatsoever with my S2+ triple spacers. Original order got lost in the mail, so he sent another order out as soon as I inquired about it. TOP NOTCH CUSTOMER SERVICE! Unfortunately I reviewed both orders today, so now I feel like an *hole. Thank you Kiribaru, I know I’ll definitely be ordering more soon.

received my C8 triple spacers yesterday. The fit and finish is excellent!!!

I have a D01 with copper pill, that is one massive chunk of copper. Not a bad buy at all!

any more ?
thanks

Sorry?

Funny, but I have reversed almost all my thoughs about Q8 modding.
Actual situation:
1.5mm brass tail boards - got to much pressure from tailstock when machining. They are too ugly to sell them as is, same way Im to busy to sand them for better look.
Hex wrenches - in stock
SS tail screws - in stock
Springs - in stock (Im going to make positioning tool and solder springs to the brass boards)
Brass buttons for positive cell side - in stock
Board sets for 2S2P/4S mod - in stock - have wrong OD caused by manufacture error
I still dont know how to “set” this parts together, open for your suggests.
My ideas about 2S2P/4S mod were too complicated, I dont see this way reasonable. Anyway, Im still thinking that mine idea with “medium board” (extra pcb between driver and cells) is ways more safety than regular decision (with separate contacts pads on driver) and Im asking driver developers to think in this direction.
Same time, Im back to the idea of 12 leds in Q8. I went wrong way previous year, but because of abilities of one blf member, project seems to be alive.

Got some things from kiriba-ru today
Awesome work!! Thank you :+1:
