For me AA means basically just NiMH, if i need capabilities of Li-Ion I pick 18650s.
I find 14500 kind of unnecessary and very underdeveloped cells compared to 18650’s . To me NiMH is ok for any AA.
I have the same approach. When I need the brightness of 14500 I’m usually hiking in the dark and also need longer run time. 14500 doesn’t provide that and the little lights run into thermal issues anyway. This is where I like the Zebralight approach of efficiency and good brightness on AA.
1. It can transform into an angle light (rotate the head 90 degrees) or use as a straight handheld.
2. It has a magnetic base
3. Uses ANY AA battery. (I use 14500 for max output) But in an emergency can use a regular AA.
4. I can make it a headlamp by rotating the head and using the Olight headband H2R Nova Headband (uses a magnet in the cradle for fast placement and has a silicon strap to secure)
But I have also been thinking of the Klarus Mi7 (glad to see it mentioned several times here)
I simply LOVE this Rofis! Best all around AA light. (IMHO)
My wife is carrying an 18650 light in her purse and notified me last night she wanted a “smaller light”….so here i am on this thread.
I would like a AA/14500 light with usb charing built in one way or another (either in the battery or on-board charging. I see many lights suggested on this thread but very few have the usb charging option. Any suggestions for me? Budget please less than $30.
I am also open to an even smaller light than 14500.
Can someone help please?
Some have in-built charge, and I guess others have rechargeable batteries!
They are sold in several places (I normally search in AliExpress) but there other places for sure!
Also, if you want a small 18650 light with in-built charger, take a look at this thread: Folomov EDC-C4
The Jetbeam E10R is an extremely nice and small light and it features regularly in deal threads for less than $20.
The big flaw in that light is that charging a NiMh battery (like AA Eneloop) via the USB-port does not go well, the charging stops at 70 or so % from full. But if you use a 14500 in it (which has better energy density anyway) charging is fine.
Hi,
Look for the Jet Beam E10R AA / 14500 built in charge, although it has been reported the charging function will not fully charge an 14500 . For Ni-mh it works. JetBeam also has the E01R AAA size with charging function.
This is a description I’m not endorsing any particular vendor
This flashlight was delivered on January 11, 2018. It has become my all around favorite light. I chose the neutral tint option. It is a warm tint. So if it matters this is my current favorite AA/14500 flashlight.
In the AAA/10440 form factor, i’m very partial to the Ultratac K18. Possibly the brightest in it’s category, very well made and nice to look at. A USB charger add-on is also available - which is a must have to charge small cells at a moderate current not always possible on most charger.
Wow the Ultratac K18 in that website has a Nichia option. Even Ultratac’s own website doesn’t even have that. The XP-G2 version runs at 110 lumens on AAA. I wonder which Nichia emitter it uses and which tint. I would buy it if it has 4000k or 4500k tint as I really want a good AAA or AA nichia warm/neutral light.
I just got my Lumintop Tool with the 219… quite nice!
I’m not a fan of AAA lights, so I never got any Tools before, and this is my first, pretty much only because of the 219. Think it’s a 4000K 219BT, maybe 4500K, don’t recall offhand.
