BLF GT cases, soft or hard

You’ve got PM ;).

The Ape Cases arrived. See this post for images.

I like it! :+1:

Maybe add a piece of fiber board, nylon/lexan plastic to the bottom to protect the head and glass lens.

Looking at getting a UCLp lens for both of mine, but haven’t heard back from Chris yet

The bottom is double padded. Easily 1" thick. Add the OP/Tech hoodie on the light and you're good to go!

Glad your confident in your set-up, I’ll add a 1/8’’ piece of fiber board/Lexan because I’m not!

Just got my OP/Tech hoodie today (XL), I sort of regret not getting the XXL, the XL is a very tight fit when putting it on. From the looks of it, the XXL is definitely not going to come off and its dimensions seem to be a better match for the BLF GT.

I may add something. I'm not sure yet. I was thinking about something cylindrical, that the head of the GT slipped down in too.

Spare batteries are my first thought. A piece of foam the thickness (length of) 18650 batteries. Cut out so the battery tube of the GT slides through, w/8-18650's (individually) around the circumference with a handle of made of strap material attached to lift it out. Here's a sketch.

I have the XXL now. It works fine. Not as snug and it stays put. I however did the opposite of you. I ordered two of the XL that are not here yet!!

Question for those who got the Op/Tech Hood Hat - Is it neoprene only or does it have a stiffener/piece of plastic along the bottom as well?

The reason I ask is because I went with the LensCoat Hoodie. It is more expensive, but there is also a pocket on the bottom of the sleeve which contains a thin piece of plastic which has additional padding on one side.

The Op/Tech is neoprene only

I own a few LensCoat Hoodies and a few Op/Techs.

The front disc in pouch is why I prefer the Hoodies. It offers much better impact protection, fits better, and the rigid front keeps the hood from slipping around.

Is it this one seery?

Thank you. Hopefully the additional info helps some folks deciding on what to get.

I picked up the XL & it fits well.

Thanks seery and kindle! This is what I found……

From the Manufacturer

The LensCoat Hoodie helps protect the front element of your lens from dirt, dust, moisture and impact. The neoprene Hoodie fits easily and snugly around your lens hood or shade in either the shooting position or reversed. The Hoodie features a reinforced removable front element protection disc made from rigid plastic and firm foam to further protect your glass from damage. Great for travel and storing your lenses. The X Large fits lens hoods from 4.75” to 5.25” in diameter.

And about the XXLarge…

I measured the head on my GT and its roughly 5.275” so I was thinking I would rather have the larger plastic insert of the XXLarge?

kindle is the Hoodie you have, the XLarge (plastic insert) actually bigger then the GT’s Head?

If the bezel of the GT measures ~5.25”, the XXL would probably be too large and wouldn’t stay on properly/securely.

Yep, maybe…

I’m not inclined to have it fit tight, something to put in the bottom of the bag, that has a plastic protector for the glass that is bigger then the GT’s head. Instead of a piece of fiber board or Lexan/Plastic. Besides it’s only a 1/8’’ bigger on the radius of the GT head at the XXLarge smallest dimension 5.5” so I’m thinking the Hoodie part is still going to be alot smaller? Maybe?

I’ll probably get both playing it safe, use one for when the light is slung over my shoulder on it’s sling and one for the transport bag.

The XXL slips on easily and stays on fine. Think back what the XL fit like on Dales, how it looked snug to the cone of the head. The XXL is not like that. At the cone there is about a 2mm stand-off. The hoodie fits snug (not real snug) to the area that's lens diameter, with a little sag (like loose pants at the waist) over the lens. But it stays on fine. Considering how the XXL fits, and the thought of adding some protection in the lens area, it should tighten the hoodie up some. With the talk of doing this, KB, I may be following your lead. I think I'll use 1/4" high density foam to cover the lens radius, glued to a another that's slightly larger. I'll stop in to see my upholstery buddy tomorrow :D

It is larger than window (barely), it just covers the inside edge of the bezel but does not extend to the outer edge.

Thank you very much Kindle, this is what I needed to know! :+1:

The Lowepro was too tight. The torch was under compression and this fails the padding, imo. I ended up with this case. I put a 3d printed lens cover underneath an op tech hood and it does well. I cut up the piece of foam from the GT package that fits the body tube into a ‘square’ that I put over the tube at the top to keep the torch centered and from knocking about. An M4 2 point sling and a couple packs of 4x18650’s and a charger fit nicely in between.

I’m looking forward to Neal’s case for my second GT, that arrived today. Cells are on the charger!

I knew the LowPro was too tight. I looked at that one as well. This ApeCase I got is nice.
Yeah, I thought about using the packing foam the light was packed in, but what (if for any reason) you have to ship it somewhere, or decide to sell the light?
I’m leaving the original foam where it belongs and getting other
