Thrunite TC20 - XHP70 - 3800lm

Not sure why people are hating the NW tint. Personally I love it!

Yes the new Cree emitters have some tint shift and we all have to accept that fact. For outdoor use, you don’t notice it and the NW tint is great!

It’s much brighter than the Acebeam EC50 gen II, but the EC50 doesn’t have any tint shift. For the price and size, it’s a winner.

I can answer you with the CW version I just received…GREENISH AND YUCK! It’s not overly green but it’s there in all modes except turbo. It’s hard to describe but it’s a beam that, (to me), and for a lack of a better term is “sickly like looking through a slightly green fog”

Again, the turbo mode is nice and white and is what the other modes should look like. I’m very sensitive to greenish tints and to me, it’s very disappointing. I’m sure it might not bother some folks but like atbglenn said, we’re all somewhat overly picky here.

The light itself is very well built and otherwise very quality with only the slight mushiness in the activation button, (as one poster pointed out), the only other slight negative. But the beam color trumps it all.

I compared the CW beam of the TC20 against my D1 in CW that I received last month and it’s no comparison. The D1’s CW beam should be the standard that all CW beams should be, white, white, PURE WHITE! No green, no blue, no yellow, nothing but white.

I apologize as I have no way to show beam shots but this is going back. I just hope Thrunite doesn’t give me a hassle in getting a refund.

I hope you folks that ordered CW have better luck than me.

I hope I have better luck than you. Green tints drive me nuts.

NW no longer available to USA customers! Hopefully just out of stock.

I wish you luck too. Let us know about yours when you receive it.

Again, any others get CW and what’s your thoughts?

Well I just e-mailed Thrunite asking to return mine for a refund. They say their warranty is bulletproof if you’re not satisfied so we’ll see.

Maybe I’m missing something but what other tint options are there with this light? It seems like a lot of these “new and improved” LED’s” ARE improved with better runtimes and more brightness but still are hindered with tint problems just like the old days.

I really had high hopes for this but alas, it has some teething problems like most new lights nowadays.

Hey, I’ve got an idea! Let’s just buy them anyway and spend extra money for better whatever this or that and many hours to make them right!

Again and like always, some folks will be fine with these tints and nothing wrong with that. I just wish I could be.

One of the things I like a lot about this flashlight is how FireFly and Turbo are hidden.
What I like less is the spacing of the outputs. I would prefer: Medium = 650lumen.
Does this flashlight has a ATtiny?

200% more lumen, 90% runtime in Turbo compared to High? How realistic are the run times?
-Turbo (3800 lumen; 130 minutes)
-High (1800 lumen; 145 minutes)

I think thrunite had a typo here, in Robo review he measured 9A draw un tailcap, so, it must be 30min, not 130 (without the step down, of course  u

My full review here…… ThruNite TC20 (Compact XHP 70.2) / Full review

Actual run time testing , output and lumens chart from my review…….

@robo819 THAT’s the info I was looking for!
Do I have to wear gloves for Turbo mode?

So after 3 minutes on Turbo it steps down to about High (1800)
Do you have a similar table for the High setting? The specs state 145 mins on high. I guess that should be read as 145 mins @1300-1800 lumen?

The charts are the only testing I have done with the TC20. Had 3 lights come in for review at once and have 2 of them done so haven’t had much time to do more testing with it.
I think if started in High mode though it would probably get 120 to 140 minutes as my best guess.

It gets hot at the 3 minute mark but not blister you instantly hot , as you could probably grab the head for a couple of seconds before you get burned.

I’ve edited my post for the correction, sorry to cause confusion. :person_facepalming:

Ok I went out and took a few shots with the TC20 I did my review on. Taken from 22 Feet away at a WHITE garage door , paint is a semi dark beige and the trim is a rust red.

Did this so those asking about the tint on the cool white can judge for themselves , as to whether they like the tint this ONE particular sample I did the review on with the COOL white emitter.

Medium

High

Turbo

Nice beam and really bright!

I’m not seeing the “sickly greenish’ tint reported by Gebe in an earlier post for the CW version, so he may have got a loosing ticket in the tint lottery. I can’t even notice the tint shift in the photos. But for me the real test is when it’s beamed at some leafy greens, trees, shrubs etc.

Not sure the CCT of the CW version but personally I most likely wouldn’t be happy with anything 6000K or higher. It’ll be interesting to see what abglenn has to say, soon he’ll have both tints.

Thanks, this is a great help!

I wonder how this compares to the 3,850 lumen Acebeam EC50 Gen III with the XHP 70.2 emitter

See previous post by edness (post #80)

Interesting beam. It’s bright, very bright, no doubt about that.
For me the first picture is the most visible one. In the last picture I see one big bright white area. In the first picture I see what the garage door actually looks like. The best part, for me is in the spill.
I even have that problem with my 650lm flashlight. Lot’s of lumen is great when lighting up an large area. But when detail is needed, like reading the label on an paint can in the basement it blinds me.
If the OP deems this question off-topic then I’ll start another thread…
What can be done to make the whole garage door as visible as in the four corners of the first picture? Less lumens? More floody? Different tint? Higher CRI? Maybe a different color like green? Something else?
