Some good cat layouts coming together. I have rat and dog layouts on my phone but no cats to share.
Of course you are correct that LEDs are not exclusive to flashlights. But the problem is that there wouldnât be enough topics about bare LEDs to justify another category.
Actually I should correct myself. Thereâs another more appropriate category to discuss bare LED emitters:
http://budgetlightforum.com/forum/otherled/mods
Best cat layout is interlocking cat layout, very efficient use of space
Great cat layout photos. The cat on the flashlight is the best.
Baby steps : give us an emitter forum. If nothing else. Who cares if only one great led emitter posts in an emitter forum every 6 months, as lack of static would mean good information not getting buried. So far, any threads on blf about the latest emitter were all found by me through Google, not by browsing, which I would find tedious, since I have no flashlight interest per se. Building my own stuff and 80k lumen plus worklights are my thing, since worklight specs don't seem to matter as much as battery sucking wow factor that reminds me of drug abuse.
.
But, âŚ
itâs a flashlight forum. :student:
Using the BLF constantly almost daily since June 2017, on smartphone and/or computer, the only times I use the forum âcatsâ are to make a thread (review, doubt, âŚ) or to search for some ongoing giveaway I may have missed :money_mouth_face:
Other than that, âsearchâ and ârecent postsâ are the only things I use (besides my âsubscriptionsâ or âmessagesâ).
I do understand OPâs point, though, but searching a bit for a name or expression and sort it by date or relevance normally do the trick
My point :+1:
I donât see flashlight in the blf name.
The word budget could be limiting.
(But having built my own, a good one, at least $40 in parts, plus 3 plus hours. Probably more sourcing parts. I probably am forgetting $20 in ethereal costs. That is how much specs mean to me.)
So, in my mind $60 for a fenix headlamp, with true buck, this is budget. Insane shelf queens at $300 plus, with standard parts, is insane. Now, a $15 convoy or some really respectable $23 headlamp, is also budget-almost to the point of stealing. Anyway, the short of this is that âbudgetâ means balanced sanity, v. Ridiculous commercial shelf queens. I definitely suspect the budget name was chosen as a reaction to the obvious whoring and commercial promotion over at cpf. I often felt surrounded by wolves trying to push some overvalued, under performing lights, where the dollar ruled more than the member⌠I have not read this forum as often, for the cat reasons. So, I would be unaware if same problem creeping in here.
Other than that, it is a light forum. A $250 120,000 lumen hid work light is budget and cheap, if you consider other factors.
And, just to clarify I mean categoryâ for the foreign reader. But, unsure if better cat layout would make my cat jealous. But, I know my old lights get jealous when I go on this forum.
I find âtypingâ on a phone, even a tablet, to about as much fun as chewing on aluminum foil while someone blows cigar-smoke in my face. Even text messages are painful.
If someone can actually read and reply to posts on a phone, hey, more power to âem. Me, Iâd rather shave my head with a belt-sander. Iâll stick to a real keyboard and screen.
âThough Iâd like to know how they do itâŚ
Looks like heâs about ready to do a cat-scanâŚ

In addition to the categories, cpf is much better with email notifications. I can skim down email to get gist of a topic reply, rather than opening a browser. This is very useful on days where you are budgeting your time. Only let yourself down the rabbit hole if post looks extremely interesting and relevant. Blf notifications must be ignored and remain unopened, until I truly slow down, which may take weeks or months. By then, the topic and notification is forgotten and buried.
Degarb,
SB and a vast majority of the members are happy with this forum and the way it works.
We have heard about how it is not laidd out right for you, is inconvenient to use, youâre not even into flashlights, is lacking content pertaining to your interest, emails are not suited to your preference, and Iâm sure there is more.
While you may be trying to innovate and help this forum, it comes off as complaining.
Referencing how that other forum works does not improve your position.
My suggestion, take it for what it is. There is an amazing community here.
Folks that truly love the hobby and sharing information to help others. Folks that get excited about great deals on flashlights. And despite your observation that âflashlightâ is not in the name of the forum, it IS directly under it. ââŚwhere Frugal meets with Flashlight!â
Naturally, everyone using this forum either likes or tolerates it, at its present form.
Duh, it could be no other way, else you would be somewhere else.
It is the people that do not visit often (like me), the untapped majority. Every post or visit by a non seller in a competitor forum, should be a testament that something is wrong here.
Why, you ask; because, it is the over moderation and lack of introspection that is the problem in the other main forum. I am pointing out to those blinded by familiar settings, what is wrong here and can be worked on.
Who told you there was a competition?

I am a newer member that saw the GT On YouTube, visited adventure sports came here and look on here almost daily.
I canât start to name people, the daily useful information and helpfulness is amazing. I have been on the other sight a couple of times because I googled something that I read about here but, I really enjoy clicking on recent topics daily.
Deep down I am a âgunâperson but this year I have bought 8 flashlights for personal use, ordered several lights for friends and gifted several.
I got hooked in October, I am happy with everything on this sight. Thank you guys that run and post on BLF. Just my two cents.
I like the BLF layout.
Itâs clear, uncluttered and works nicely on both my desktop computer and my tablet. It also plays nicely with my accessibility settings (Iâm legally blind) unlike CPF, which I ended up having to write custom user CSS code for after one particularly irritating server update.
Strangely enough, I spend a lot more time on BLF than CPF nowadays, even though CPF is the place where I started out in flashlights.
Thank you, SB :+1:
But you canât speak for the untapped majority. You can only speak for yourself.
Wrong here? Apart from lack of lumens or not enough throw (depending on your own personal preference). Nothing, and both those problems can be âworkedâ by talking to the right modders.
This is one of the best and friendliest forums I visit, I have been a lurker here and at CPF long before joining both and did the same on various other forums. Doesnât matter how many sub-forums and âcatsâ there are, a well worded search or 2 can find plenty of interesting threads on what you are looking for. Keep it simple and applicable to the majority, too many things get spoiled to pacify the minority.
If you canât find what you want on here then try the rest of the internet, itâs a big world wide web out there.
