BLF GT custom handle bracket kit. (DBCustom approved. Post #121)

Sorry guys, I hadn’t used my 1DsMkII full frame Pro body in a while so I stuck the Hybrid IS 100mm Macro on it and had a bit of fun.

There are things that could be done to fine tune the aesthetic’s of these, but none of it would make it work better and it’d just gobble up a lot of time making them much more costly so right here where they’re at is plenty sufficient and they look nice, work beautifully.

You could pin it if you wanted I guess but it won’t move without some abuse. A drop of blue loctite on the joint would provide ease of mind if one was worried I guess.

Well put sir. The only change I can foresee is blending in the boss for the mounting screw which will cost nothing. It looks like the only thing left to do is a time study and to lean on the boss for a good price. Then the fact that I would need to come in on my own time as I now have at least a month worth of work that is needed by Feb 12. When I can make some time I think I want to make a small batch of just brackets (let’s say 20) and see where it goes. Anybody with a drill, a #7 drill bit and a 1/4-20 tap can make about anything a handle.

Very nice TBC. So the big question. When can I get one!!

I’ll reiterate. Are they still planned to be anodized?
Aluminum stinks to high heaven on the hands in the raw.

ARsee, it’s copper that makes the hands stink, not Aluminum. Lord knows I have barrels of Aluminum shavings that can attest to my experience with Aluminum making black hands but not stinky ones.

FWIW, copper is antibacterial, the smell when you handle it is the bacteria on your hands dying off. Smell the copper before you handle it, then after. It’s a product of your hands oils coming into contact with the anti-bacterial.

My chemistry is different. Bare aluminum stains my hands like lead. Lighter. With me, it has a warm, sterile odor.
Copper, is another story like you mention.

Love the look and have a friend that DuraCoats which might be a great solution for this. Quite likely I already missed the info, but in looking I couldn’t find any reference: is there a plan in place to get these produced and to Market? I would definitely be in for two so as to outfit both pending GT’s.

Yes, he is going to be selling them.

Agree. Use an aluminum dolly at times and always leaves hands stained. Need soap & water to remove. Doesn’t stink though…

I’m in for one…

This must be either raw aluminum of a very soft alloy. These are 60-61 T6 which I have handled a great deal for over a decade. It absolutely will not stain your hands or cause any sort of odor.

My experience come from handling old lawn chairs, rolled sheeting used as roofing and side panels sections on utility & travel trailers, older power tools (cast? Not (carbon) worn brushes) so that makes sense. Anodize and extruded has no affect. Sheet goods, most does not bother me. I still wear gloves if I have to handle bare aluminum more than open/close the truck box type. For years I would not drink soda or beer from the can. It was always from the bottle. It tasted better in glass containers anyway.

Now, back on topic of the handle.

Though it looks very sturdy indeed, I’m wondering if the handle were able to recess into the 4mm wide heat fines a bit whether it would be even more sturdy or probably not worth the extra work.?
I am definitely interested in possibly 2.

Added a little shine to one.

Looks real classy, still interested in 2 :+1:

Are they done yet!!

Very nice indeed Tbc!! :+1: . Looking good……

A look on a GT.

Next we have a new feature I found tonight that I’m sure I must have been secretly planning for months and hiding it from myself.

The “peanut” can simply be flipped aside and lightly tightened and in the hand it’s almost like it’s not even there. Sure as hell doesn’t add and weight to this monster.

Edit: This is also the first and last polished version y’all can figure that stuff out yourselves if you want shiny.

Like the shiny. Very nice.
