Thanks.
I was careful unscrewing the plastic, but nevertheless I slipped and ripped some resistor and some other element.
It’s funny to see strobe running with moonlight level .
OK, will have to repair. But first another question:
Without split ring pliers, what’s the best way to unscrew the bezel?
I tried tweezzers, couldn’t do it. I tried friction, didn’t work either.
I can glue it to something and then polish the glue off but that’s quite a lot of work…
You just need a cheap blunt nose set of needle nose pliers usually a dollar at most hardware stores.
The nose is rounded except where the pliers contact, it’s ground in a D shape. They fit in the round slots on the bezel.

A cheap pair of these should work fine with a blunt nose.
.
Managed to unscrew the bezel with a grinding stone. Pressed the bezel hard against the stone and the friction was enough.
Unsoldered leads, no problem. Couldn’t unsolder the ground though. Too little power? I use a large screwdriver type bit, 410 °C, 50W iron. Is the iron too weak?
I weakened the connection, moved the wire a bit to the side with the iron and then cut with a knife.
I re-soldered one of the elements that I ripped off. Now I think it was not a resistor but a capacitor. That thing is TINY.
I moved the other into place - it seems I bent the legs, but haven’t broke them (not sure).
Best 16340 batteries I have tried so far. I ran a 3 amp test on them and I got 400mah to 3v. Would have been more if I had lowered the cut off voltage to 2.7v. Thanks for the recommendation CRX. :+1:
.
I still have some trustfires on the way to test when they get off the slow boat.
Yeah, I have Al. It’s uncoated plastic. I’ll see, if I get deeper into this light I may get a Cu/Ti one or ask Klarus if the are willing to sell me a coated one.
Thanks for the good news.
I finally got the trustfires in off the fasttech slow boat. I got a little over 500mah at 10 1/2 mins at a 3 amp discharge to 3v.
The trustfires hover around 3.55v at a 3 amp load and start down from there.
Fasttech is the same place HKJ got the batteries he tested from.
Seems that its the same battery and nothing has changed. Best 16340 out there for high drain devices. How long they will perform at this level, time will tell.
