Astrolux S42

Hi guys,

I am interested in Astrolux S42 because it is small and has the rechargeable built in. As well as this flashlight have 2000 lumen. but I rarely see review on this flashlight?

May I know is there any problem with this light?

Also the Banggood recommend using flat head unprotected 18350 battery.

I just received my AStrolux S42 after 89 days of shipping time. bought it via ebay.
There are reviews on here, Lexel wrote one and others too. I am struggling to write a review because…

- It is a fine little light, very good craftsmanship, no quality issues

- But: I hate the UI. I am a pretty technical guy and like all kinds of gadgets, RPIs, computers, macs etc… but this light UI gives me more grieve than a flashlight should give anybody. Instead of switching the light off (long press for off is something I hate anyway) the light almost always goes into turbo.

- When using the light I don’t fully get why it changes mode groups. I understand how it is lined up from the manual, but in real life the groups change more often than they should. It almost comes across as a defective light (it is NOT defective).

- This light has a slight delay when using the switch. Nothing serious but I don’t like it.

  • I have new drivers here and have to put effort/time into modding it. But that’s what we do, right

I would wait for the next generation of this light with a better driver/UI. Narsil is perfect for this.

There is some development, I’d wait.

edit 2: The only reason I bought this light was a coupon I had for ebay. Had to spend it somehow and it was running out. The only light available online I wanted was this one. Paid 9 $US total after the coupon (there are many sellers with shops across all ebay markets with different prices). For 9 bucks it is an OK light, I wouldn’t pay the 30 $US advertised on ebay.

edit 3: yes, I don’t think protected cells would fit in here. I use a Bestfire 18350 and that fits.
I can not speak for the extended tube for 18650 since I don’t have it.

edit 4. WELCOME TO BLF!

Simply no, buy another light.
The UI is that bad.
Electronic Lock-Out doesn’t work.

Read the group buy thread.
If you use it as a host for a new driver with NarsilM then it’s nice but not in stock form.

As I remember it didn’t reach it’s specs. The Nichia 1300lm was a bit over 1000lm @30sec.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your input and great advise.
