Best Single AA flashlight for 2017/18 ?

Here, near minute 4:

Cool. Weird. But cool.

Yup! It would be nice to know how this would work on a ramping UI.
I guess the work being developed by TK and the team of FW3A (along with Lumintop) would be benefit this discussion (here or elsewhere) if a new AA/14500 project emerges.

I really would like to see it go further!

I also would prefer a light with less modes (3 instead of 4 or 5). For some reason a lot of lights now seem to use ~ 100 lumens for a “medium” mode which annoys me. If I have fixed modes, I want a longer lasting practical medium mode. From what I’ve seen most lights can do around 8-10 hours at 50 lumens and only around 4-5hrs at 100 lumens.

I think the jump from 300 to 50 lumens is too steep. I prefer a 100 since its more usable light. I guess they need to make the modes programmable.

“Worst is any Coast Flashlight because they are exspensive and all have purplish hue beams.”

Many Coast lights do have unpleasant blue tints, but not all. My HP3 is quite blue.

My Coast HX5 has a nice white tint and is $20 at brick and mortar stores. It’s my most used light. Very easy to grab by the head when clipped in my back pocket.

I love this tiny flashlight.

Very cheap, good construction.

With AA NiMH is like a joke.
With 14500 Lion is pretty good for indoor use.

3 modes (high, mid, strobe), zoomable

“Warsun 268 lumens” or “Warsun zoom8” or “Warsun XP-E” (not the 7W model).

I will buy one of these, soon, to mod it (just to use with 14500s)!
I like the form factor, and also that it is a push-pull (not twisty) zoomable! :+1:
BTW, can you confirm the diameter of th driver, please? Thanks in advance :+1:

Sorry kostasb, but is that the driver or the tailswitch? Thanks again!

Don’t. Lookit the spring in the tailcap. I just went off on the damnable AT01s for having those ballpoint-pen springs. The switch inside will be just as crappy, and it’ll be flickering in no time.

I donated a pair of AT01s to mum, bypassed the drivers to run DD from the 3×AAA carrier (so no driver issues), and it still flickers like crazy. Bap the switch and it stops flickering for a little while, then back again. No contact, some contact, maybe contact.

Save yourself the ag. Seriously, unless you intend to waste lots of time trying to transplant an Omten into that ’cap, it won’t be worth the bother. Especially trying to run 14500s…

x2… that tailcap switch looks like bad news to me too. Those plastic press-in types are always garbage, they never use good switches.

It was the tailswitch.
Αs you have figured out, I have no idea of flashlights. :person_facepalming:
But I love to disassembly things.
I hope this time to measure the correct part.

If not, tell me which part do you want me to measure.

Thanks Lightbringer, Kramer5150 and kostasb!
Those indications demoved of buying it… I wanted a AA/14500 zoomable light to mod, in this “form factor” but this doesn’t seem to be the best one for that :frowning:

I will not go through that work of full switch replacement.

Does anyone know any reliable AA/14500 zoomable light, tailclicky, easy to mod (driver and emitter) on this short and tube form?
If I don’t find a suitable one I may leave this option aside and opt for an On The Road i3…

MascaratumB XTAR WK007

samyy, thanks for the suggestion! However, for the purposes I want it, the head of the Xtar seems a bit bulkier that what I wanted! That was the first light i thought about, but the seems to be larger that what I want :frowning: Yeah, I may be a bit picky on the form currently!!
Thanks anyway!

BTW, I guess that Rofis R2 is a light that can be added to the “list of 14500 lights” we have been discussing

I might have to get one of those star trek lights and mod the hell out of it

FENIX ld22 is my favorite AA flashlight. Small, compact, 300 lumens perfect for EDC use. I have listed my all favorite aa flashlight http://tacticalflashlightguide.com/best-aa-flashlight/ in this blog.

Is anything remotely close to a Zebralight AA headlamp?

Main priorities:

1. Lowest weight possible: ZLs come in around 2.8oz with everything (light, battery, headlamp)
2. Good efficiency - since I’d be using an AA instead of an 18650 I want as much runtime in the 1 - 70 lumen range as possible.

$60 isn’t crazy, but just curious if there’s an alternative out there for maybe $20-$30 less.

I have a skilhunt h03 (only 44g), but the 18650 battery makes it quite heavy.

@nquinn

what about manker E03 ? I haven’t tried it, though.
