While the light seems to have turned into a “design by committee”, at it’s heart I’d like to think it’s still Fritz’s baby. so whatever he signs off for is fine by me.

Any idea on the CRI of the XPG3s that are expected to be used, unless that has changed. I would be happy for anything around 4500k 90+ cri. I’m very excited about this light. Any updates on the manufacturing process, expected release date? Sorry just excited.
The xpg3’s were to have been 90 cri iirc but the problem was that the other examples of them haven’t really been that great looking in the real world. That’s why many of us are advocating for 219c or xpl options. The 219c 4000k is what I’m personally thinking would be best and most like what the xpg3’s on paper might have been.
In 219c I’ve tried the 5000k 9050 in the d4 and didn’t quite like them as much as I’d hoped; the 4000k should be less green by virtue of being warmer, so if anything they’ll be a very slight bit yellow which is less of an issue; shouldn’t really be noticable. (Most people don’t even get bothered by the 5000k in fact) Can’t get a 219c in 4500k. Eventually I’ll have to do a e21a quad (r9080, with a blend of 4000 and 5000k) but that will have to wait.
I cannot help but mention again that the 5000k color temperature in 219c 9050 is that disappointment; many would prefer the tint of the previously mentioned xpl’s if only they didn’t have the tint shift, additional cost, and lower color rendering. They don’t seem so green, perhaps because they’re slightly warmer in practice.
(My d4 runs closer to 5250k and the q8 runs closer to 4750k, I would say.)
I’m interested in one. I’m not expecting a reply but I haven’t seen my post show up. This is my 3rd time trying. So if the other 2 show up I only want one. Thanks.
I wanted to do a Condorcet-style poll for emitter family and another one for color temperature, but people thought that was too complicated. They might be right. Besides, BLF doesn’t have a way to do that kind of poll, unless it has a very small number of options.
Me, I’m hoping for XP-L HI in 3D or maybe 4A. That would cost an extra $10-$12 though, significantly raising the price of the light. All the other options are cheaper but have some sort of technical downside… like poor beam quality on XP-G3, extreme heat on 219c, or significantly reduced output on XP-G2.
If it doesn’t have that as an option, I’ll probably just mod one how I like… assuming I can find the emitters. Nobody has 3D or 4A in stock lately. Maybe I could get close enough with two 3A and one 5D, or two 5D and one 1A.
I tried mixing emitters on a quad XPG a long time ago and it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. It seemed to combine the worst aspects of each emitter instead of averaging them. Have you done this successfully?
As for the poll, why not make 2 separate polls, one for tint, one for emitter?
As for tint I’ve tried everything from 3500K to 6500K out in the forest at night. No matter what the claimed CRI, 4000 and below made things hard to distinguish, especially browns. Pine cones and poop piles looked identical.
5000 and up produced a lot of diffuse bounce so that moss on solid ground looked identical to moss over scattered branches. Using a 5000K light resulted in a nasty fall in that situation.
4500 and below let me see past the moss to the branches and ground below and would have kept me from falling. 4500 and below also cuts through fog for the same reason.

Your name was added many months ago. Check post #1. You asked for 2 lights and where put down at #752 and #753.
Your under no obligation to buy, so if you decide you only want one, that’s okay.
I prefer 4000k or 4500K. I find 5000K to be to cool.
The 4000K XPL HI 5D in the Emisar D4 is excellent.
Totally agree with that choice, but somehow the Emisar Neutral White – XP-G2 S4 5D, 4000K has the tint of pink that nicha 219b lovers like. So get some of their resources on those. Better heat management and output than the nichia 219c.
Had 3 of the Neutral White – XP-G2 S4 5D, 4000K so far and all had that pinkish tint.

Kinda tempted to do it anyway though, if no one else does.

I always request 4500.
Sounds like our preferences are pretty close.

Yes, once on a BST and also a less-wide config on a D4.

My XP-L (domed) 4000k-ish emitter in the UT01 is also very rosy. Even if it isn’t high CRI, I can totally live with that if the beam is consistent and the tint on the rosy side of the black body line.

Sorry, I posted that on the wrong thread. No wonder I didn’t see it.

Full ACK
No, I think it’s design by team and we throw things at the team and see what sticks.

And Lumintop should have also a voice what is good for the lamp.
Hi I would be interested in getting one of these as well.
I’d also want one!
Yeah what the heck, add me to list.
Interested
I am #209 on the list, can you please put me down for an additional one for a total of 2, thanks!

Card Carrying CRI baby
Yeah I’m hoping for the Nichia high cri leds as well. I would be good for 4000k as well. I know some folks might like 4500-5000 as neutral white.

Oh man, if this light is going the route of the blf gt with a 4000k set of emitters, you can count me out. 5000k is around the warmest I care for.
Basically, we should wait for the finished product, then decide. Things are always changing on this light.

Yes, thanks Jason. I will definitely be waiting before deciding.
Under 5000k and I’d be out too, but lets wait and see.
I don’t think anyone wants anther LED disappointment
How is the overall progress on this light? Is there a very very rough estimate of when it may be finished?

Sorry, I posted that on the wrong thread. No wonder I didn’t see it.
Also, @Toykeeper, any of the 4s work for me.
