ThruNite TC20 (Compact XHP 70.2) / Full review

Turn your battery tube around.

Non anodized threads go to the tail end … seems some of them have been put together backwards from the factory.

Thanks. Just checked, my battery tube is correct. The 1/4 section of the led is ok on the higher modes so it just won't stay in turbo for some reason.

What cell are you using? Sounds like a protection circuit kicking it down when asked to supply too much power…

The one that came with the flashlight. I'm just charging my protected Keeppower and will give that a try in an hour or so when it is charged.

I may be misunderstanding what you are saying here but ……………

Are you saying that 1/4 of the LED is NOT working in some modes?

Yes, on firefly and low mode, 1/4 of the led is not working at all.

Something is wrong with the LED itself then……should all be working in all modes.

This is mine in Moon………

Your led looks fine. I borrowed my wife's camera and not sure how to use it, but here is my pic of the led.

I put a green filter in front of it to make it easier to take a pic of as her camera is iffy.

Yea definitely something wrong there with that emitter.

Yes… there is something wrong with your led… this is not new… i seem xhp70.2 and xhp70 diffuse dome light up half led… so your led is defective… time to exchange!

Thought so. This is my second flashlight with a faulty led. My DX80 has the same problem but only half of one led is dark.

I just sent an email to Thrunite and will see what they say. I ordered this light through their website and it came today here in

Canada from Amazon.

I think they will make it right without much problem , but don’t hold me to that though because I HAVE been wrong before….lol

Hate to see anyone get a faulty light , but at the same time I don’t know of any of the companies that have a perfect track record with quality control yet.

Yours is actually the first one I have heard a problem out of.
They are nice little lights though and I hope it is a quick and painless ordeal to get things done for you.

Thanks. I know it can happen though and I feel much better already knowing just how bright it is in turbo now that I switched batteries. I was feeling a little deflated before thinking it's just not what I thought turbo would be haha.

What model Keeppower battery are you using how many MAH?

Protected 26650 5200mAh Keeppowers. They fit and work great and here's the link where I purchased them from link

Thrunite has been great and offered to pay for return shipping and also ship me a new one in a month when the new production is finished.

Wow that WAS quick and painless…….Kudos to Thrunite for the great service.

I am sure your replacement will be checked and working properly before it is sent also. :+1:

It sounds like maybe the protection circuit is holding the current back as a guess. It could be that when it tripped it did not reset properly? (just a shot in the dark)

I just went and rechecked with mine to be sure I wasn’t lying but………
I don’t get nearly enough lumens difference to tell with my eyes using the Thrunite cell , the Basen High Drain , Efest High Drain , or the AWT High Drain cells.

I also checked each on my meter and there wasn’t but bout about 80 to 100 lumens difference across all the cells when the light is turned on (at start). All of the cells were fully rested but had been fully charged prior to setting them back on the shelf.

If you haven’t already asked about it , I would find out if they will send another cell with the new light , even if you have to send back the one you have now with the light.

*EDIT: Ok I was really curious and went and done some more checking.

With the Thrunite cell and all the above mentioned High Drains the light comes on with an average of around 3700 to 3795 lumens and all have around 9.7 amps at start at the tail.

The kicker and what is making me wonder now about the included cell is………….

With the Thrunite cell although it has the highest initial amperage at start with 10.03 amps , it drops off sharply at about 18 to 20 seconds to around 7.9 amps and 2600 lumens. (different than my initial 30 second test when I got the light)
The rest of the high drain cells start at about 9.5 to 9.7 amps , but none of those drop off below around 9.1 to 9.2 , even up to 45 seconds and all the high drains are still retaining around 3500 lumens at the 30 to 40 second mark.

Very interesting indeed.*

I have already emailed them to report a possible problem and included my findings with my sample also.

I think you found something there with the Thrunite cell dropping off so fast after only 20 seconds or so. Good troubleshooting! I may have an especially bad cell from Thrunite as brightness from my Keeppower is very visibly stronger.

You said you couldn't notice the difference from High to Turbo. I have an easy test for you to try out. Click and hold until you reach high and then just click once to turn it off. Then in a small room doing a ceiling bounce, double click to bring it right to turbo. When you double click, the first click actually turns it onto high and the second click puts it into turbo, so you should see the difference between the two real clearly if everything is working right.
