AMD CPU's 9 series ..

Those CPUs are obsolete, like 5 years old.
It’s literally just an overclocked FX8xxx CPU that costs double.
Even when it was released the FX9xxx CPUs were complete crap, they produce massive amounts of heat and didn’t perform any better than the intel CPUs from 5 years ago.

Save up and buy a new current-gen motherboard+CPU that isn’t an outdated induction heater.

so much peoples that care about me

The Government will always care about you.

Just don’t ask why

The new cpu’s are over valued ….
DDR4 is expensive …
MB’s are expensive …
Graphics cards are over valued

Only thing that is decent is Hard drive prices , monitors have at last come down in price as well .

For now I hope for 5ghz … I will double my ram when I put in the water cooler ( aircooler blocks ram slots )

And I may buy a bigger SSD … Maybe next year I will go for a new CPU / RAM / MB / Graphics … Doing that right now would cost me nearly 2 grand …
To be honest , I don’t have 2 grand to surf the net a little faster …

I found the lowest priced FX 9590 ( new from newegg ) , Cooler Master Nepton 140XL ,
I will graft the Nepton into my Antec Case ( Not really made to handle it ) . It will shoe horn in .
This will then free up ram slots , so hopefully I can find some 16 gig of matching ram …
Then maybe 6 months down the track I will throw in a 1TB SSD … ( Currently 250MB SSD with a 2TB Hybrid )

Just need to crunch video faster … Intel CPU’s are good for Video crunching , but a long time ago I took the AMD road .

There is a whole new CPU technology emerging that will make current CPU’s look and feel very old …
Not sure how many years to filter down to consumers ( joe six pack ) , but expect a serious leap in computation power possibly by 2020 , oh and more $$

+ The CPU I have now is overclocked about 800mhz ( 24-7 ), I don’t remember but power might be around 220Watts + ( and then some ) …
Been overclocking for 2 decades now , always pushing … A long long time ago I was on the leading edge of performance , I no longer have the money or contacts to sift through dozens of CPU’s looking for a really good one … The 9590 supposedly does 5ghz Turbo … I wait and see , if the CPU is half way decent it will 5ghz 24-7 with good cooling .

1) You don’t need to buy the highest end product.
You can buy a cheap ryzen 5 or 7 and get better performance than the obsolete 7 year old FX CPUs.

2) DDR4 is expensive because of a current memory shortage, you can get cheaper stuff on ebay or craigslist or just wait for prices to drop.
8 or 16GB isn’t too expensive.

3) motherboards are not expensive, do some research and you will find that there are many good ones that are less than $100-150

4) CPU frequency is not how you measure performance. Just because a CPU gets 5GHz and another gets 4 does not mean that the 5GHz CPU performs better. There are many other factors.

5) As I said before the FX9000 series is literally just overclocked FX8000s. They cost more, use a huge amount of power, and barely perform any better. You’re wasting your money on a marginal increase when you could save that money to upgrade to a better CPU+mobo in the near future

6) If you want to overclock an FX9000 CPU you will need a dual 280mm AIO or better cooling, like a $500 custom watercooling loop. Even with a 140 it will be overheating at stock speeds.

7) It does not cost $2k to upgrade to a recent generation CPU and motherboard, clearly you need to do a lot more research on components before buying.

8) If you choose to buy literally the worst CPU in existence, the 9590, it’s your money and it is up to you, so I can’t stop you from wasting it.

Here is a quick comparison between Ryzen 7 1800X (3.6GHz) and FX9590 (4.7GHz) based on users benchmarks.

Ryzen > all

Memory and video card prices are a function of crypto-currency ‘mining’. I hope they all bite it.

Only video cards are.
Memory is expensive because of dram shortage from factories.

I have been playing since 93 … ( Computers )
I haven’t played with water for a long time …
And I dont mean to be rude , but I was not really fishing for advice … ( There are simply too many expert opinions out there )
The road I have taken , is the road I will ho till 2019 … My current 8 core runs 4100mhz , a 9590 will be faster ( not comparing to anything else ) …
Can the Nepton 140XL handle the 9590 ? ( I am going to find out ) …
Apparently the Nepton 140 kicks most 240s to the curb , if the reviewers are not lying … I have a very old Frio air cooler handling 4100mhz just fine … ( Fans @ 1500rpm )

As for the $100 to $150 M/B’s , they dont do what I want …
My current board is the ASUS Crosshair V Formula ( old stuff now but a fine board in its day )

So see what happens in 2019 …

A long time ago I used to play on HWbot.org

And I was every now and again a top runner on air …

Admittedly I haven’t tried to do anything for a long time pushing benchmarks / points …

Comparing CPU’s these days is just to complicated. Now I always consult this list when making a decision.

From this list, you can expect about a 20% performance increase going from an FX 8370E to an FX 9590

Here is a list of benchmarks for all kinds of hardware.

As an example of how confusing it can be, the Intel “i3” chip can be a 2 core or a 4 core.

Have a relative speed of 1160 (i3-380UM 1.33 GHz, 2 core 18W) or as high as 9184 (i3-8350K 4.00 GHz, 4 core 91W)

Here is an Intel i7 that benchmarks at only 1323
Intel Core i7-620UM @ 1.07GHz, it’s only a 2 core at 1.07GHz and 18W

Yeah … Ever since intel brought out their Quad cores , AMD has pretty much sucked Intel dust …
I know this … I built Intel computers for my friend , and they just roosted me for Video encoding .

I was going to go to the new CPU , but costing things = Just not on the cards for now … So just upgrading what I have …
Which will then allow me to upgrade another computer with my old CPU … ( I have a spare 890FX M/B doing nothing )
It’s the budget option .

Depending on the calculator used , either 235 Watts or 245 Watts , 24-7 for ?? Years ….
I can’t remember when I got this CPU , but from day one it did 4000mhz ( 4ghz )

Cooling 240 Watt is not hard …
Generally overclocking is all about finding the wall … ( Wall = when the CPU needs huge Voltage increases to scale further )
Some CPU’s hit the wall early , worst I ever had gave about 50mhz ( long time ago ) …
I had a few that only did 100mhz …

THe Holly grail of CPU’s is the one that overclocks 100% … ( Celeron 466 comes to mind ) ( Some Q6600 also did 100% overclocks )
Generally if you can find a CPU that overclocks 50% you should be very happy …
These days , one might be happy with 25% …

I don’t run anything stock :
My current cpu is lapped , my heatsink is lapped … ( Does it help ? - I think so )
When the water cooler gets here , the waterblock will be lapped , and the 9590 will be lapped …
Anyhow , will be interesting never the less , I havent done anything with my computer for maybe 5 years ( except put in a larger SSD and HDD )
So this will be interesting at the very least .

Welp, it’s your choice if you want to waste hundreds of dollars now instead of saving it to buy something that isn’t obsolete.

That is not how you compare CPUs.
Instead of looking at a number on a synthetic benchmark, you need to look at real world tests from reviewers that test the programs or games that you plan to use/play.

It is when it’s all coming from a few square millimeters and you need to keep it below 68C.
You want at least a double or triple rad to cool the 9590 and a custom loop or phase change if you plan to OC it.

240W is pretty high TDP compared to modern CPUs. You will need a lot of water to keep from hitting the limit of how much heat the water can dissipate.

At the end of the day it’s your decision and you can scoop up a 9590 for cheap so it’s an easy upgrade if you’re happy with what you already have, but want it to be slightly faster.

New GPUs are pretty expensive, but the used market is extremely affordable because people only want the latest-gen GPUs. You can get GTX 970s easily for sub $200. It isn’t hard to build something very decent for well under $1,000 if you already have monitor, mouse, keyboard. The most painful cost is the high RAM prices. You could always upgrade to one of the better CPUs that can still use DDR3 to offset the cost and still see a large performance boost.

It is extremely high, double that of a server CPU and triple an i7.
That’s before you even overclock it.
And intel’s CPUs can safely reach 85-95C, while you need to keep AMD CPUs below 68C.

my only advice is dont build/buy new PC, at least this year
intel with coffee lake is a fail( yes it has big improvement, but the Spectre reduces a lot performance)
ryzen is quite outdated( because Ryzen 2 is about to launch, maybe in this year)

the ram price is very expensive, the GPU is also expensive

Hey mate just wait till Ebay has a sale and buy one of the old work station style desktop top computers. Some thing like a dell Optiplex with a I7 3770 or 4770 go for the dell or Lenovos. Throw in a 1050Ti if you want to do some gaming.

One of these deals it will be more then enough power.

My mate worked for a IT company and when they threw out there old Lenovo workstation PC he got me some. They work great i like the smaller size of them. It just mean you cant fit in as many hard drives and the power is redistricted by the PSU being like 240w.

What ram do you need?

A) I don’t know what the 9590 is going to do , I do know that my current cpu runs about 235 - 245 watt and has done so for 5 years or something . I have had no heat issues with it …

But I don’t run factory settings … I test a cpu and run it where I am happy … It could be a rubbish stepping or it could be a good one ? ( I don’t know )
If I have to throttle it back to 4500 (?) because the CPU is a pile of ? , I don’t know . It’s all about finding out …
I havent run water in a long time , but am looking forward to trying it … Push come to shove I will buy new fans for the Frio … and put the water in the rebuild . ( Other rebuild )

I don’t like paying a premium to have the latest ( scalper prices ) , I am happy to wait . Would have been nice to get out from under the Fx rock , but looks like it will be a while .
Running AMD for the last 10 years , there have been no real upgrades , ….
The biggest boost in performance has come from SSD , and I have been running 4 ghz for almost 10 years now … Going from 4 core to 6 core to 8 core …
And more cores have done next to nothing with most applications .

I should have gone Q6600 all those years ago … Actually my mothers solitaire puter is powered by a Q6600 ( one of the good ones ) … But the MB and ram are way budget .

B) I cant remember what ram I have , middle of the road performance stuff … I still have the box … Kingston HyperX ( HX318C10FK2/16 ) 16GB DDR3 1866 CL 10 240

I will wait and see if the water can handle the 9590 , before buying ram .

At worst , it will be an adventure …
