ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Wow, what a sheath!, a bit wide but i like a lot.

My question was if it is the best bushcraft knife for the price in chinese brands. Anyway, we would must to see wich is the best, strenght, steel, ergonomy, sheath, thickness, full tang etc.

nice stuff guys. where do you get kydex, and is it hard to work with?

So it looks like there is something available now: link
I might pull the trigger and give it a try.

That one looks promising. It even uses the same stones as the Ruixin Pro.

Yes it does.
There is another similar one that can be found on AE if you look for KME but it uses different stones, similar clamping to the KME but not sure the stones are compatible with the originals.
In any case, I would probably go with the one that uses the Ruixin stones as they seem to be more widely available.

I got mine here: Tandy Leather — Tandy Leather, Inc.

They also have the “Boltaron Black Graphite” that looks like carbon fiber:
https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/boltaron-black-graphite-06-12-x-12-x-06-304-x-304-x-1-5-mm

I bought my kydex sheets at one of their retail stores near me, it was on sale last month for about 50% off!
They also have the metal and plastic clips, plus rivets, screws etc.
But they don’t have the Phillips head Chicago screws so I’m looking at amazon or ebay for those. (or a knife making supply co.)

I also see there’s a lot of the Kydex sheets on ebay.

.

I can’t really say how easy it is to work with because this will be my first time and I haven’t got around to it yet. You heat it with a heat gun or in an oven, I was told the heat gun method was best, and after it’s heated if forms rather easily. But there will be a learning curve I’m sure, plus the cutting, drilling, riveting and and dressing the edges etc.

Also at the Tandy leather store they offer learning classes for sheath making, both leather and kydex, so I’ll be signing up for those as well.

.
In addition to some knife sheaths I’m hoping to make some flashlight holsters similar to these:

Anyone collecting axe?
I just ordered this multifunctional axe. A bit expensive than what i used to spent on sharp toys.

Nice Axe! Can you post a link? I wasn’t able to find it anywhere with google.

.

I only have a few, one is a Vietnam Tomahawk axe, it looks just like the Cold Steel reproduction in the photo below, but I believe mine is genuine US Military issue from the 1960’s designed and made in Ebensburg Pa, not far from the garage sale where I found it!

The Axe has a long history:

.

.

The second one I own is the Timberline Alaskan Axe / Knife Combo:
It an extremely thick heavy duty “shorty” Axe with a double sheath.

I’ve also been interested in this one (around $45) I really like the large square knurling handle, plus because it’s a hollow handle with survival kit inside, the knurled cap on the bottom unscrews, and also has a compass inside the cap like the hollow handle survival knives. (I have an original Buck 184 Buckmaster bought in the 1980’s, and a collection of 1980’s Made in Japan copies of it)

Only I’m reluctant to buy one for that price because it’s 440 steel and made by M-Tech.

I ordered through fasttech since it has coupon SHAMROCK today. Link
I am attracted by its shape and multifunction.

Those are beautiful axes you have. Do you have link where to get the bottom one?

Sorry so long to reply had to run out to work right after I posted…

Yeah that HX is a real nice axe, I’d like one one of those, thanks for the link… +1 on the multi-function: ax, hammer, pry bar, hex wrench, plus great tan G10 textured handle scales and a real nice kydex sheath too. Really cool.

.

The Elite Tactical axe I was looking at is on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/U-S-Marines-MTech-M-X001-Tactical/dp/B00KY97MMG?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-ffcm-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00KY97MMG

Looks like I can get it low as $36.67, there’s also several listings for it on ebay but higher priced. Also available from other online shops but mostly they ship to USA only, probably have to search around for a seller that ships international.

.

I did see HX Outdoors makes one very similar (same handle):

Fasttech has it too: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10047580/9640708-hx-outdoors-multifunction-outdoor-survival

HX Outdoors Wild Dog Tactical Axe Tomahawk

Looking at those HX axe’s on Fasttech led me to some real interesting HX survival type knives:
.

.

Tiger Sharks Survival:

.

.

Scissor/knife is pretty cool:

.

.

I like the gnarly handle scales on this one, but that word on the blade! what the? :expressionless:

.

I like the thicknesss of this:

.

.

“Tiger Teeth” folder is interesting. The flipper really protrudes!

.

I guess it locks with a pin thru that hole? But I don’t see a storage place for the pin like this one below (someone already posted about it earlier here)

.

That’s “Antiterror” with cyrillic letters.

Yes, that was me. The Bastard Halibut is a quite interesting slip joint design with that locking pin / torx tool. There’s a magnetic slot in the handle for storing it:

Beam0, ya, that HX axe really ticks all the boxes. And it is around 745g, not too heavy. I can only buy one axe as toy, i picked it although it’s shorter axe.

Thanks for your link for that tactical axe. HX version has a soil digger. Should be more useful for camping. But it’s more expensive.

I am interested with that HX AHTNTEPPOP knife too. It is a long knife that i don’t have yet.

Thanks! Now it makes sense!

I see Gearbest also sells that one but a much higher price!

I see Gearbest has another version scissor-knife… “Dogfish” Tactical Scissors:

GJ - 05 DOGFISH D2 Steel Scissors Knife

Thanks, I see that one has the storage place for the pin but on the “Tiger Teeth” folder I posted I can’t see anywhere where the pin is stored.
Yeah I thought it was you that posted that Bastard Halibut before, I see it’s a much better price at Gearbest too.

I really like that Bastard Halibut but I fear of loosing the pin/wrench if you accidentally drop while inserting it, especially out in woods or grass. Is there only one pin with it or does it come with an extra?

I have one knife with a lock pin, a clone of the Extrema Ratio 185° RAO, (ridiculously large heavy duty folder!) The pin is attached to the laynyard.

The pin is threaded on the end and screwed into place, the lanyard is a stretchy elastic material that also serves as a retention strap when pinned open.

I might sell that one and get the RAO II clone that’s out now:

The “Tiger Teeth” doesn’t come with a locking pin.

The Halibut comes with one pin / torx tool. In case you loose it you can easily replace it with a bent nail for example.

That RAO II looks nice and its blade shape seems more practical than its predecessor.

Any ideas for a ball bearing small folder i can sit&flick with? I rather stay under 6” total length of knife. As “budgety” as possible please.
Frame or liner lock.
