Thorfire s70s Parasicit drain question.

There are much better lights for a night stand light that have a glowing button and a very low moon mode.

With the S70s it takes maybe 2 months to run down the batteries in standby, so overnight should not be a problem.

Thank you, could you tell me what the better night stand lights are with a glowy button please? I can’t afford 300 dollar lights.
This was the only light I’ve seen so far with a glowing button.

There are many. You can even add a glowing button to certain lights, but not all drivers respond well to that. It’s best to get a light that is made with a glowing switch. Try these:

Astrolux S2 XPL-HI 1400LM EDC LED Flashlight 18650 $35

Astrolux S3 XPL-HI 1400LM EDC LED Flashlight 14500 $23
https://banggood.app.link/Vo6GhP7UjL

These have a nice 5 lumen moonlight mode plus the Bistro UI which let’s you configure it many different ways. I would suggest mode 4 or 5 with memory turned off. That way it will always turn on at moonlight first, regardless of what level the light was on when you turned it off.

The S3 is a smaller version of the S2 and uses a 14500 battery.

I know there are some more lights that come with lighted tail switches. Maybe people can post some more.

So if I’m understanding this correctly (just got out of the ER concussion crap sorry), both those astrolux lights have a lighted tail cap? Or is it glow in the dark? I have a few with glow in the dark switches but the problem is that they don’t actually glow. That’s why I liked the S70s switch.

Those two lights were designed by the crew here at blf and a member named pilotdog66 was the one who designed the switch PCB with LEDs built in that shine through the silicone boot. They do have a small amount of parasitic drain, but it’s not too bad.

Here is an example of a switch “kit”.

I’ve put these in an Eagle Eye X2R and a Convoy C8, but they mess up the memory feature if you don’t also mod the driver to make it compatible.

Here is another example, but just the switch.

Thanks! So is the light always on on the switch or is it different than the s70s?
Sorry I still kinda suck at this whole modding lights.
I usually have Robo do it for me. The modding. He does a good job. Besides I don’t have the tools necessary like a solder gun.

I have the thorfire TK4A but it just isn’t what I’m looking for as far as the led switch.

I have epilepsy and having the light switch on is a great feature for me as the pitch black can cause me to have issues (seizures). Not convulse like on almost tv show.

I really need some light even if it’s just one of them led or whatever light switches on the wall. If I have something for my eyeballs to focus on I’ll be good.

With the S2 and S3 there is no modding involved. They come from the factory with the lighted tail switch.

The tail is lit only when the light is off. Once you turn on the light, the tail switch turns off. Since there are no wires going to the tail area it draws power through the switch.

You also don’t have to have the tail switch lit. You can turn the tail cap slightly to break the electrical connection. This also stops any parasitic drain and is good for storage or transport. A mechanical lock out.

The S70s works a bit different. It’s switch light stays on all the time as long as the tail switch is turned on. It draws it’s power from a wire on the driver.

The BLF Q8 is another light with a lit side switch. It’s brighter than the S70s. I think it sells for about the same price as the S70s with a coupon ($45 -$50). It’s a different size and shape, though.

The BLF X5 is the same as the Astrolux S3 $25.

Thanks and that’s sweet about the no modding needed with the s2 and s3. I’ve been eyeballing that Q8 for a few months but not sure how it works. Does it have a tail switch or 2 switches somewhere like the S70s or is it just the side switch? Banggod is showing that light for 70 some dollars. I’ve never used that app or website before so I have no idea how or where to get coupons.

Looks pretty cool. I actually prefer floody lights and something that don’t easily fall over like I’ve done with some of my stock thorfire C8s. Oops
I like how the TK4A tail stands easily and sturdy. But the moon mode is WAY too dim for my eyes anyway. Not enough light for my needs/wants.

Does the Q8 tail stand well? Same setup as the S70s I’m assuming with the side switch?

I guess I’m looking for something fatter like the TK4A. But without AA. I like the 18650s how they last longer than them NiMH lights usually.

The Q8 only has the side e-switch. It’s not mechanical on and off, it’s just a momentary contact switch. You can turn all power off (machanical lock out) by twisting the battery tube 1/4 turn.

It’s a ramping UI. You hold the button to ramp up or down. One click on and one click off. You can always start it at the lowest level by turning it on with a press and hold.

The S70s only has 5 preset brightness levels. It’s quite different from the Q8.

The Q8 tail stands super well.

I forgot about led temperature. The Q8 is only neutral white (the reason I didn’t buy one). The S70s is only cool white. The S2, S3 and X5 are available in both.

You’ve never bought from Banggood? What about Gearbest? That’s 2 big stores around here. You would need to ask Freeme or Madmax about a coupon code for the Q8. It’s easy to make an account with the store. Then link it to your Paypal. If they have a coupon code, they send it to you in a PM with how to use it. I think the Q8 would be sold from Banggood. You put it in your basket, then apply the coupon code and the price drops way down.

As far as a light similar in shape to the TK4A, that’s tricky. This Sofirn might work. It uses a 26650 cell, is NW and has a 10 lumen low. It’s side switch has a small green glow that shows battery life (not exact).

Sofirn SP33 $23

I don’t typically look for lights by lighted switches, so I know a few off the top of my head. Sorry.

I’ve replied to you with a PM. I don’t have PayPal either. Just debit card. I just downloaded Banggood and Gearbest apps.

I didn’t know what ramping meant so I watched some YouTube videos and all I got to say is dang!!! Gotta make sure I long press that thing if I get it lol.

I also have the Sofirn C8F upgraded version that Robo reviewed some time ago and I love it, but I need something that don’t wobble easily like the C8 sized lights. That’s why I’m thinking about the Q8 or even that Sofirn with 26650.

My mobile home area gets very dark and I don’t have a light in my bedroom really. So something that gets plenty bright and won’t easily fall over during my morning clumsiness.

You can get a PayPal account with a debit card no problem

I don’t keep any money in my PayPal account. When I make a purchase, it pulls the money from my debit card.

Paypal is accepted at a lot of places. It’s super easy to buy something. It has a pretty long buyer protection plan, etc… It’s also free.

I didn’t know that. I am on disability though. Will PayPal screw with any of that or no?
Also I know nothing about what a buyer protection plan thing is.

I don’t see how it will have any effect on that. Paypal is just a way to buy stuff online. If you get a refund through PayPal it goes into your PayPal account. Then when you buy something, it uses the money on the account first, then if it’s not enough it can draw money from your debit, credit or bank account.

I get paid on a debit card so Paypal is pretty convenient.

All my eBay purchases are through paypal as well. It’s good to read up on it. In today’s modern world you need things like Paypal and debit cards.

Ok so where do I go to download PayPal? It’s not an actual card is it? My stepdad uses PayPal for his eBay everything but he never really told me what it was. So I go to banggood aliexpress or whatever and it’s cheaper or easier to check out? Can I take money out of or off the PayPal if I want to?

Honestly, I’ve had it so long I don’t remember how I signed up. It’s not a card, it’s just a program, digital wallet, app that is secure and handles online transactions. I would use a desktop or laptop and go to paypal.com and read up on it. You can create an account if you want. After that you can also get a PayPal app on your phone for easy purchases on your phone.

I buy from China all the time and there are no extra fees. The seller pays any fees. The only time I had to pay a fee is sending money “to a friend” type of transaction.

Okay I’ll check that out and probably create an account. It is free right? It’s not going to charge me to make an account? Thank you

It’s free as far as I remember. That was a long time ago.

OK. I’m just sitting here playing around with my new MI boxer charger charging some NiMH cells and comparing the time it takes compared to the D4. I have the C4-12. Idk if that’s their only charger or not but I wasn’t expecting to be able to charge 4 26650s at the same time! It’s awesome. Glad I bought it. I’m charging some EBL brand 2800mAh double a and it’s charging them at 1 amp. Isn’t that a little high? Also will you let me know if anyone responds to that Q8 post thing you did? 70 bucks is kinda pricey for me right now. Only can work max 22 hours or I lose all insurances. But that’s life what can I do (other than get me another light)
Plus the cost of batteries. I always buy as many cells as I need at once because I think you save the more you buy if I remember correctly from IMR batteries.
Been a while since I bought me some new cells

I don’t ever charge that style of battery so I can’t say for sure if 1 amp is too much. You can always set it to a lower charge rate if you want to. Push the button to select the battery and then hold it down until you see the charging rate start to flash and then you can click the button to go through the different charge rates. When you find the rate you want just stop on it and after about 3 seconds the charger will switch to that rate.

Thanks. I figured that out by reading. I only really use aa for my little thorfire. I was looking around on banggood and I found a Sofirn SP35 that is pretty much the same style as the thorfire (which I like) except the Sofirn runs on 3 18650 cells. Was wondering if you have ever used or read anything good about that light?

I have a bunch of rechargeable C batteries (sorry to keep changing things up on ya), but I can’t seem to find any flashlights that run off of a single C battery. I’ve been looking everywhere and if it’s on the forum here, I’m not seeing it.

I was just kinda curious like for the people that don’t like the lithium batteries or just don’t want to use them, is there anything at all that uses a single C or even D cell?
Them triple C cell battery lights are pretty large length wise and heavy.
Just curious. I’m more really into that Sofirn light tbo. You don’t gotta worry about them C cell lights if ya don’t wanna.
