why not? if they couldnt get all lights out u must understand frustration on some users not getting any info if light was shipped etc… we were promised that all lights will go out before holidays, sadly some didnt i would in same situation also ask for a refund…

If u promise a light will go out before a certain date but for some reason it does not, then the buyer has every right to ask for a refund then if u ask me….

come on guys lets not bash the manufacture.

just wait and give them a chance to rectify the issues.

I think they are working on the driver to address the problems.

I got my tracking number before the holidays and thought it was shipped. But it seems that it was shipped weeks after holliday. And If the flashlight has not left the factory, it is easy to ask for a refund, because they heave not yet payed any money for shipping.
Thats the european thinking about it.

It would be ok if they give a notice, that there is a delay in shipping, but no one got such a message or nothing were posted here officialy.
But if they send a tracking number in early febuary and promise in this forum that all flashlights were shipped and send it out in the middle of march, it feels like they are lieing to me.

I can’t speak officially but I have had several people message me so I figure I will tell you what I know about the driver situation.

Yes, as several of you guessed, Terry and then Haikelite brought me in to look at the drivers issues with the MT09R.

After some diagnostic testing and a bit of luck I found that the extra capacitor that was for some reason stuck between the LED V+ and the LDO was the cause of the issues. Removing it seems to have solved the flickering and “tailcap” issues. Although it is not a perfect fix, it does seem to work thus far. I still want to know why that was put there.

Haikelite then asked me to start from scratch and design a driver for the MT09R. I have been working on it for the last 2 weeks. It will be a fairly simple TA FET based driver for simplicity and reliability. With a few tricks like dual FET’s for more current handling if needed (only one will be populated from the factory I think).

It will also have some extra voltage spike suppression control built in to handle the massive currents it will be dealing with.

I got the first prototype built Friday and have been tweaking the firmware and driver ever since. It will naturally be running REAL NarsilM 1.3 which is light years better then what the stock drivers had (only the S42 comes to mind as being worse in recent memory I am sad to say).

In testing so far it is working great, FAR FAR better UI and performance as well. I swapped out the xhp70.2 LED’s for some 80CRI 4000k emitters and I am getting 23k lumens peak out of it now. It is also pulling around ~40A of current at 6.6v, for over 250W of power!

Needless to say it gets silly hot so almost a full day was spent tweaking the thermal control settings to keep the heat in check. Sadly there is no way to do it “smooth” with this much power, it can go from 55c to 65c in under 15 seconds. So there is just no time for a nice ramp down. It just drops the power in a big hurry.

It works though, in testing even with my mega light it will reach about 55c and then start stepping down and usually the overshoot tem is still under 60c, which is “Safe” (aka, your reflexes should be plenty to keep you from burning yourself).

The driver will just be a single channel FET driver for production I think as the 7135’s have proved unreliable at 6V. It becomes a bit of a lottery, some work and some don’t. Only way to know is to try it which is not production friendly.

That said I talked with Del and I am making a V2 of the driver that could improve the 7135 reliability. It still needs to be tested though.

The 7135 will gain you a lower moon mode, smoother ramp in the low modes and better efficiency in the low modes. If you do not use the low modes much, then the 7135 will not do anything for you.

I will be selling some hand made and tested drivers with the 2 channel 7135 design if anyone is interested. I just need to figure out how many to build.

I have to say, I really like this light once it has a good driver. I can see it getting a LOT of use.

That said I naturally always see ways to make things better. I have been trying to talk Haikelite into making a “TA” version of the MT09R to my specs but they have not really acknowledged it yet.

I think they are worried it would cost more and people would not want to pay the extra for it….

The modes sets would be the standard Narsil mode sets with some minor tweaks. If someone has a suggestion for the modes let me know.

The mode sets is something I still need to work on, I never use them myself, I will not use anything but ramping for an e-switch light now day.

Also I didn’t mention it earlier but due to the heat issues the ramp will now stop before you reach 100% with double click turbo giving you the full power. Just like on the GT. By stepping down the power you can vastly reduce overheating and battery life with only a fairly minor effect on brightness.

Especially for the 35 HI, what do you think about the possible lumens output for the 3 emitters? The 70.2 should easily achieve 15k lumens with your proper driver. (as it already has now)

They currently have the xhp70.2 running in 6V and the xhp35 is 12v. So it will need slight changes to some components and firmware but the same driver will be used in both versions.

Can you perhaps comment on functionality of the illuminated button? Thanks!

The 70.2 version will be limited by the springs, with a spring bypass over 15k should be fairly simple with the stock LED’s.

The xhp35’s are limited by being a fairly low bin, they just don’t really have much more to give. I am actually having to figure out what to set the max to on them now. I will be gone for the day, I will give more details when I return later.

It will work just like all other NarsilM lights such as the Q8 and GT. The firmware is the same. Just customized for the output and LED setup.

It will loose the 2 LED colors but otherwise will still show things like low voltage and be a locator ect.

It will also drain much less power due to being run at a much better current.

On another note the momentary mode is a lot of fun with 23k lumens on tap. :smiling_imp:

Wow. Now I finally have to do my homework and study NarsilM… I read about a cheat sheet or something… Really looking forward. A light as attractive to hold and look at like the MT09R deserves a rock solid performing driver. :smiley:

I don’t know what the updated Haikelite driver is going to be, but once this is exactly known you could make a poll comparing the new stock driver to your version of it, and ask if and how much people are willing to spend extra on it or something like that.
A poll gives decent insight that could persuade Haikelite.

23k on the 4000k 80CRI version is insane. I tested the 5000k version at 2,170lux compared to 4000k version at 1,640lux, which is 32% brighter so a 5000k with your new driver can reach 30.4k lumens??!!! holy cow! I can’t wait to see the new version! I also hope Haikelite will offer the 4000k 80CRI too. I’ll buy another one even if the price is higher since we are in DX80 and X80 territory but I like the beam on the MT09R better. Beam looks so beautiful especially with DC-Fix applied.
