Thrunite TC20 - XHP70 - 3800lm

I wait for those too

Isn't a square one less efficient because of less mass? Just wondering if Thrunite was cheaping out on the new batch.

It is not less efficient. What counts is the rate of heat dissipation on the casing, and this ensures copper and good contact (paste and pressure). The surface itself no longer matters, especially such a size difference.

komeko, thanks for the explanation

Call it like you see it I guess, I sure wouldn’t power up a 70.2 on that square MCPCB. The larger round MCPCB makes more surface contact with the host body, I usually recut the emitter shelf on an L6 so it can take a 26mm MaxToch MCPCB for example, then push it to 20A or more for in excess of 9,000 lumens. Depends on how far you’re taking it of course, but I like to use maximum contact surfaces… go big or go home.

That's why I asked the question as it did not make sense in my mind to make it square, thanks DB!

OK, I have not followed thread recently. But I see a lot of MODS that were done to improve light? I will order the TC20 CW version. What should be done for better throw, tint color, spill? OR leave as is. Anyone on here with keen knowledge or do MODS for small fee? Please advise. Thanks.

Any tips on getting the bezel off? Does it just screw off with enough force?

Rofis MR70 and TC20 are similar, but those two are quite different from MF-01

.
Do you want a fat body super flooder? Then get the MF-01

If you want a light for an all-around use that’s a nice size to pocket and carry? Then the MR70 or TC20.

  • TC20 shorter length than MR70
  • TC20 better knurling than MR70
  • TC20 has NW option, MR70 does not

If you’re OK with the above differences and you really like that diffuser side light, then get the Rofis.

.
My personal choice between those two? …TC20

….And after you buy the TC20 you can begin saving up for the MF01

Thrunite got me anyway, the Catapult V6 announcement got me by the short hairs and I pre-ordered immediately. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Catapult V6 looks like a great light for the size.

Then again, so does the TC20.

To be honest, they got me with the diamond knurling, the big diamond block knurling. I’ve got normal knurling on most everything, but only have that diamond look on one or two and I’ve liked the Catapult V5 for a long time, just never got one. So now they’ve made it compact, 26650 WITH included cell, and built in charging at 2A, utilizing the XHP-35. How could I resist? AND they’re offering the same 20% discount as on the TC20, win win either way, so while I already have plenty of general purpose style lights for out here in the country a compact thrower is a welcome addition.

Had to get the Catapult V6 too, just what I was looking for.

I also really like diamond / pineapple knurling. I almost bought a MecArmy PT18 because of it, but the tail cap kind of turned me off.

For some reason I like the look of that knurling better on the thinner 18650 tube. It appears deeper on that one too. I’d like the V6 head on the V5 tube.

The diamonds on the V6 are spread around a fatter tube, and the lighting is different for the two flashlights, they aren’t side by side but photoshopped into the same frame. I like the consistency, they didn’t change the pattern even though it’s on a different sized tube, taking a 26650 instead of 18650 like the V5.

I also like that it’s half the price, the V5 is running about $120 at the moment.

In the TC20 they also show the consistency in the defined knurling, so the brand continuity is solid which is a good thing. They know what they’re about and they don’t feel the need to change everything up all the time. I may still wind up getting the TC20 as it’s such a unique and surprisingly small light, making quite a lot of lumens for the package size. For anyone starting out, these two would make good companion lights, the general purpose more floody TC20 and the longer range throwy Catapult V6. Both have built in charging and both take the same (supplied) cell. This would be a great place to start for someone looking to get into flashlights….

That Thrunite V6 is tempting and my Kershaw Launch 1 needs a flashlight buddy.
Thrunite TC 20 is my Benchmade Adamas 275 sidekick .

I’m not saying I don’t like the V6, I agree on all points. But aside from the photography I just feel diamond knurling looks better on a thinner tube.

I’ve been trying to decide on a new pocket thrower, and the V6 is now added my decision list:

  • Catapault V6
  • Utorch UT02
  • Emisar D1S
  • Maeerxu M8

The UT-02 is pretty compact, nice light to be sure. Really needs a bit of current boost but thats not difficult, the hard part is not overdoing it! lol

I’d like to see a photo of a TC20 along side of UT02 for size comparison.

So fast, so the quality hmmm:
