Then they could have driven the emitter harder and get the throw well above 200K and the form factor wold still be “Catapult”.
Better yet: two 20700/21700.
To me it looks like Thrunite is just “going with the flow/hype”.
To bad, they set the standard with the original Catapults, with the TN31/32 line and lately the TN42.
Don’t follow others, design your own.
Would be nice to have a nw version. Cw is good for throw and also bad. If there’s moisture or dust in the air just going to see a wall of light. Not to mention it’s harder to make out details with cw at a distance. But manufacturers want to chase the high lumens that’s what the masses want
This does appear to compete well with the Utorch UT02, except the price, and that Utorch offers NW.
At 750m it’s an upgrade from the V5 in distance, but the XP-L HI equipped Emisar DS1 and Maeerxu M8 are rated 720m and 800m.
I thought with the XHP35 HI it might be more, but the UT02 is rated 700m, so I guess the gains of XHP35 HI are efficiency, a larger hotspot and more spill?
Note: my V5 has an XP-L HI. Originally CW V1, I changed it to V3 3C (=NW). \
It does - without any driver or spring mods - 184Kcd = 860m.
Want a short version of a real Catapult?
Try the V2. Mine has BLF dd driver with dedomed XM L2 U2, tube bored out to accept 20700 and it does 243Kcd.
And no, you’re right, neither of these lights have a XHP50 HI. So what?
My M2X does 1200Lumen and my Catapult V2 1550. Why need a XHP50?
I just don’t see the point of having an XHP50 HI in a small light with only one battery.
Regulation will always be an issue and the led cannot be driven hard so the throw will always be limited.
If you want a small light, with one battery, that throws out a good amount of light and has good throw, use any
decent one-cell thrower, give it (near) direct drive and put a dedomed or shaved SST40 in it.
It will beat any one-cell light with an XHP50 HI.
I view lights as the one in this topic as hype lights. Yeah, looks nice and of course Olight means quality but why should you?
I see no other redeeming points for this form factor other then extended runtime.
Big deal.
If runtime is what you want simply us a multiple cells light.
