ThruNite Catapult V6 XHP35 HI

komeko,

That link works. Clicked on the Thrunite TC20 and the color analysis picture came up.

Me to.

Then they could have driven the emitter harder and get the throw well above 200K and the form factor wold still be “Catapult”.
Better yet: two 20700/21700.

To me it looks like Thrunite is just “going with the flow/hype”.
To bad, they set the standard with the original Catapults, with the TN31/32 line and lately the TN42.
Don’t follow others, design your own.

Grtz

I was crossing my fingers for an Oslon in there.

Would be nice to have a nw version. Cw is good for throw and also bad. If there’s moisture or dust in the air just going to see a wall of light. Not to mention it’s harder to make out details with cw at a distance. But manufacturers want to chase the high lumens that’s what the masses want

komeko, it’s now working. Whatever you did fixed it.

I changed the server. Thanks

For a thrower I think the extra output of the CW is lost in the lower visibility of the “white wash out” effect. But it might just be my old eyes.

This does appear to compete well with the Utorch UT02, except the price, and that Utorch offers NW.

At 750m it’s an upgrade from the V5 in distance, but the XP-L HI equipped Emisar DS1 and Maeerxu M8 are rated 720m and 800m.

I thought with the XHP35 HI it might be more, but the UT02 is rated 700m, so I guess the gains of XHP35 HI are efficiency, a larger hotspot and more spill?

Not a thrower?
This out throws the V5:

V5……105400cd………649 meters
V6……140650cd………750 meters

.

Also which model of Astrolux is 1*26650+XHP35 HI?

Note: my V5 has an XP-L HI. Originally CW V1, I changed it to V3 3C (=NW). \
It does - without any driver or spring mods - 184Kcd = 860m.

Want a short version of a real Catapult?
Try the V2. Mine has BLF dd driver with dedomed XM L2 U2, tube bored out to accept 20700 and it does 243Kcd.

And no, you’re right, neither of these lights have a XHP50 HI. So what?
My M2X does 1200Lumen and my Catapult V2 1550. Why need a XHP50?

I just don’t see the point of having an XHP50 HI in a small light with only one battery.
Regulation will always be an issue and the led cannot be driven hard so the throw will always be limited.

If you want a small light, with one battery, that throws out a good amount of light and has good throw, use any
decent one-cell thrower, give it (near) direct drive and put a dedomed or shaved SST40 in it.

It will beat any one-cell light with an XHP50 HI.

I view lights as the one in this topic as hype lights. Yeah, looks nice and of course Olight means quality but why should you?
I see no other redeeming points for this form factor other then extended runtime.
Big deal.
If runtime is what you want simply us a multiple cells light.

Just my 2 cents of course
I can see the appeal.

Cheers
Nico

Catapult V2 SST-50, from 2010? Out of production now I believe, I don’t think you can buy those anymore. Yours sounds great though.

.

I guess you mean XHP35 HI?

.

I’ll have to look into SST40. Do they make it de-domed or would I need to shave it myself? Also do they make it in a good NW tint? (I prefer)

Is SST40 a very tight beam? I’m not looking for a pencil beam thrower, I’d like some spill with decent long range (700m plus)

Here’s what I’d like:

  • Single cell
  • Side switch
  • NW tint
  • Has some spill - not pencil beam
  • Decent long range (700m plus)

What do you recommend? (off the shelf, without modding)

Here’s the one’s I’m considering:

  • Catapault V6
  • Utorch UT02
  • Emisar D1S
  • Maeerxu M8

Too bad only CW. I would buy if it had NW But still curious how it compares with the UT02

I like cw. I just preordered my v6 for $60. Thanks.

same here looks a nice light for my very small collection

Anyone who ordered one received any updates? No updates here…

Ordered one and no updates yet here.

Thrunite website say expected shipping date is may 1st.

Not yet….

Why is there ” NO LOVE ” for cool white? Cool white really gives off full brightness. Neutral White has ” yellowish color ” correct? I bought the Utorch 02 because at the time they had only ’ neutral white ” I really wanted ” cool white ” version.

There is some love:

.

It’s really a matter of personal preference, and different people see color differently, I’ve even read that age is a factor but I’m not sure how true that is.

The brightness difference is minimal, NW has better color rendering; go outside and beam a CW light into some green trees, shrubbery or other green vegetation, then shine a NW at the same objects, you’ll immediately see the difference and what I mean.

Additionally, here’s some reasons why NW is best for a thrower.

To me, a CW hot spot washes out the object in the distance in a blur of overly white hue, with NW now I can see the details of a distant object better, as it isn’t washed out.
