The SYNIOSBEAM - CFT90 recoil thrower

Yup!

Here it is with the connectors removed and milled down to size (didn’t use a lathe)
I tested it and it still works

Uff… Lucky you

BUILD PROCESS - anodizing finished

Just picked up the parts today, and they look great!
Very nice type 3 “clear” finish.
No anodizing places in my area did black dyed type 3, so I chose to go with regular type 3 anodizing instead of black type 2.
The gray/green finish looks great in my opinion, and it is more durable than type 2 or even dyed type 3.
The acid etching removed quite a bit of the surface imperfections, only a couple lines visible here and there, overall a nice brushed finish!

Your pics have bad resolution :frowning:
Nice, I mean, really nice project and execution !

Yeah, I think it’s because I’m making the 600x800 pic stretch across the whole screen…
But if I upload the image in full resolution it is like 10MB per image and then nobody will be able to load the page

When I do the final build pictures I’ll upload them at full res.
I think it would be a problem for some people if they tried to load a forum page with 250MB of images lol
.
Do people prefer I leave the images as 800x600 (like pic 1) or set them to 50% of screen width (like pics 2-8)? What works better for you guys?

I think it makes the most sense to stick with smaller resolutions and instead take more pictures including more close-ups.

Ok, but for people reading on mobile or on larger/smaller screens than 1080p, is it better to leave them 800x600 or to scale them to 50%?
I think 100% looks bad on 1080p screens.

800x600 is good… if you still live in the early 2000s…
Give us at least 1600x1200 ?

Ok I’ll do that.
Just thought it would be easier to do 800x600 because CPF doesn’t want you posting images larger than that, but I guess I can upload them twice.

CPF resizes them automatically.

Yeah but the rules still say to not post images larger than that or you can get banned if you od it repeatedly, probably due to the large file size or processing needed to downscale the image.

When you load them on Imgur, select 21” monitor and imgur will size them for you

I already know how to use that, that’s how i downscale them to 800x600.

The Driver is talking about the resizing that happens on CPF.

Oh, I responded to what X3 was saying about the picts here on blf being too low res

I remember slow internet (dial-up), when people were posting thumbnails…

Get the smaller version of an image on Imgur

:+1:
Thanks I’ll do that.
I’ll still limit the images to 1600x1200 since imgur doesn’t have options to downscale to any larger sizes.

The next step up would be full res 6000x4000 from my camera and that would make the page take ages to load on some people’s internet connections :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ll save that for the final pics.

I agree with you.

800x600 is more than enough and if someone wants detailed picture from some reason then if you want send them on email.

There are some threads with beautiful but too heavy pictures that 5Mbit connections simply can’t chew.

So 800x600 resized for web is around 100kb or less and that loads lighting fast.

I upload this 6000x4000 picture to imgur which resized it automatically to 3200x2400, due to size limit to 1MB.
(Non-animated images over 1MB for anonymous uploads and 5MB for account holders will be lossily compressed).

This is the largest thumbnail, by adding “h” before “.jpg”

Link to Full size

If you have an account, there is no problem to upload a 6000x4000 picture as long as its size in MB is not over 5MB. Make a thumbnail and add a link to the full size.

If you want to resize your image once uploaded to imgur, put your mouse in the top right corner of the image, choose “edit” :

Type the new size (for example “2600”), click “apply” and then “save”. Copy the new shared link, add a letter for the thumbnail.

You need to go into your account settings and enable high quality.
Then the images do not get lossy compression (they get very little compression, but it is lossless)
So for example one of my 4.5MB pics might be compressed to 4MB, but remain 6000x4000 and not lose any quality.
EDIT- actually if they are over 5MB they will get lossy compression, you’re right.

Also yes you can resize to whatever resolution you want individually, but that is a pain to do for many images so it is a lot easier to use the resizing during upload settings that RobertB posted an image of above.

BUILD PROCESS - final assembly

I had to buy a larger tube of thermal paste in order to heatsink the copper cooling coil to the flashlight bosy.

The top and bottom of the coil is glued with thermal epoxy to keep it from moving.
I decided to not glue the entire coil because it would make it impossible to remove if it needed to be replaced for any reason.

Once the coil was in I put the rest of the electronics and cooling loop inside the light.

The final components were the reflector and front glass.
