Replacing my UT01 EDC! Please help...

I have been edc’ing a Utorch UT01 for a while now, but it stopped working so I’m looking for a replacement. I really liked the UT01 but i missed recharge-ability and it would occasionally heat up my pocket  so I think i would be better of with a tail clicky.

What am I looking for?

Musthaves:

- comparable in size to the UT01
–600+ lumen
-micro USB rechargeable
-deep carry (reversible)pocket clip
-tail clicky or side switch that won’t fire in my pocket

Nicetohaves:

-neutralish tint
-programmable UI
-memory

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The Rofis R2 meets most of those requirements. I am not sure if the tailcap locks out power though.

Not sure what it does for OTF lumens. I would be surprised if it does not step down after a few minutes. Most well designed lights in this size do.

Thanks for pointing that one out, seems like a nice light! I looked in to it and found that it steps down to 300 lumen after 3 minutes, something that does not bother me at all. Lights this size have to step down or will melt…

What is a deal breaker for me in this one is that it’s not micro USB, I really like the option to charge it everywhere I go without carrying a special cable.

I edited the start-post to broaden my horizon, I was looking only for 14500 size but if it’s small enough I think 16340 or maybe 18350 lights will be OK too.

I think the search continues…

For 14500s, you have the Jetbeam E10R; doesn’t tick all the specs you want, but has some.

If you opt for the 16340 flashlights, you may try to look at the Klarus XT1C. The flashlight doesn’t have USB port, but the battery it comes with, has a micro USB rechargeable port. Don’t know how good they are, though.

You also have Klarus 14500 batteries with micro USB port (take a look at AliExpress). Maybe this can be a nice alternative if you don’t find a rechargeable flashlight.

Wuben has a 14500 flashlight with USB rechargeable circuit, but it is much bigger than the UT01.

That light doesn’t exist. You will need to make some compromises. What features are you willing to omit?

I have a similar preference list and have had to make compromises. The UT01, E11 and EDC05 all have manual power lockout with a 1/4 turn of either the tailcap or head. No need for a click switch, although one would be kind of nice. But click switches can and do fail. So as a scout coordinator I prefer the added fail proof nature of a simple twist cap. I don’t find it that awkward to use.

To get around the charging cable I pack carry an olight magnetic charger. Yes its an extra cable I have to carry, but it weighs next to nothing, packs down really small and has been absolutely reliable. I use it at home too every now and then. Works with all kinds of cell chemistry too. Biggest benefit is it takes charging out of the light and as a result keeps the light itself small, compact and the omission of a plug port is one less water intrusion point.

I also prefer to use 14500 cells without protection circuits or re-charging ports on them, hence my charging choice above. An upgrade to 14500 cells with micro USB port is something you should consider… that will meet your micro USB cable requirement.

The Jetbeam E10R meets most of your requirements, It has a way to electronically lock out, or you can twist the tailcap if parasitic drain is a concern. Its longer than the UT01 though so you pay the size penalty for built in charging. The mobility versus capability compromise… this theme comes up in every gear-related discussion.

Consider an Eagle Eye X2R with an 18350 tube (the X6 tube I got from bangood works on mine).

uUSB charging, tail clicky, essentially the same length as the UT01, though obviously larger in diameter. Mode memory, but not programmable. Available in a neutral tint (though Banggood sent me a 1A even though I ordered 3C). I don’t think it came with a clip. They claim 670lm output.

I second the X2R, nice light. Fitorch ER16. On the Road U18. Lumintop SDmini.

Just my 2 cents. Well maybe half a cent.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I’m willing to compromise on every aspect, except the micro usb port and to not to much in size.
I also found this one:
JAXMNVE M3

I will look in to them all

I went for a new second hand Olight S1r that I found for €30,- and I have Jaxmnve M3 on the way. I will post my findings when I have yhem both.

Carrying both lights for a week now, and I like the Olight better. When taking cost into account the Jaxmnve wins! It is pretty close overall and is 80% cheaper and only slightly bigger.

you can try our E3 AA.

I think i find a good USB charger, thanks.
