Nitecore MH20 vs Klarus XT2CR

Hi. I’m looking to buy my second light and I’m kinda down to these two. I’m looking for a good balance between throw and spill probably leaning towards throw. I’m going to use the light mostly while camping and hiking. If anyone can share their experience with actual usage on these it would be great (I’ve yet to find direct comparisons online). Also, I’m concerned about how long you can use either turbo modes before it dims down. If anyone can also explain the difference in characteristics between their LEDs, it would also be greatly appreciated since I’m still new to the jargons used. Thanks

I have an MH20GT and an XT2CR. My preference is for the MH20GT. I like the UI better even if it is less tactical because of the button layout. The MH20GT has a tighter hotspot and a bit bigger spill. With my two lights, I find that the MH20GT will run on high for longer than the XT2CR. My XT2CR steps down a bit after about 30 seconds. If you try and go to the highest level it will step down again after a second or two. It is still a bright light even with the slight step down. If you are looking for a “budget” version of the MH20 or MH20GT, take a look at the Nitenumen NE01

Between the MH20 and MH20GT, which would you pick as a good balance between throw and spill?

I only have the MH20GT, not the MH20, sorry.

How about the difference in LED characteristics (ie XM-L2 U2 vs XP-L HI V3)? Might you, by any chance, be able to enlighten me?

I am not good with any of the technical stuff. I just like flashlights, sorry

The Klarus XT2CR steps down gradually after 30-75secs depending on heat. My review of this light is in my signature. The Nitecore P10GT is worth a look as well.

No worries. Thanks for answering

I forgot to mention that rechargeability is a must for me especially in the recent weeks where I find myself not having access to an outlet. It’s also a bit of a hassle to carry a dedicated charger so I mostly carry a powerbank when charging stuff. The P10GT looks good but is a no-go for me because of this. As for the XT2CR, turbo usage seems too short for me especially when route finding while hiking. I appreciate your review. Thanks for answering

Hey,

I’m also having the same debate although I have also put the KLARUS g20 on the list,
it’s a bit heavier and more expensive tough

here’s the full review: Klarus G20 review (26650, XHP70)

Thanks.

I have both mh20 and mh20gt. I got mh20 first and was so happy with it that I got a mh20gt. But the gt version is a little more different than just a HI emitter. It is slightly longer, with a deeper reflector. This improves throw a little, but also made the spill narrower. Also there is a ring in the beam. So I am more fond of mh20, which is about perfect. Good spill and throw. Clean beam. Good modes. USB charging. Battery check.

I also have a zebralight sc600 iii hi. That is one of my all time favorite. Worth looking at if price is not too much a problem. I believe it has been on sale on zebralight website since there is version 4 now

I have the mh20 and its pretty awesome.
The GT model is just a bit more throwy, meaning the main hot spot will go farther down range with the XP-L HI so the peak intensity is higher than the mh 20 but with the same output. Otherwise they are exactly the same.
I also have the lumintop sd mini which is very similar to the GT to add another option for you, and maybe cheaper if that matters, but its really sold and I like it too,
