Review: The new HaikeLite MT07 - Buffalo XHP70 thrower

Thanks for the info , I am still learning about batteries and have been reading a lot about capacity and discharge rate. Comparing different ones on charts, but I still don’t understand what minimum amperage a High Drain 18650 battery can have and provide enough power for a flashlight that requires a High Drain battery. I want the highest mah High Drain that will work and supply the flashlight and Im trying to decide between those that you all have mentioned. Than You for steering me in the correct direction :slight_smile:

Haikelite recommends Sanyo NCR18650GA button tops rated at 10A each. I apply a very basic rule of thumb when it comes to required current per cell. If we look at flashlights with 4x18650 cells:

~5000 lumens (BLF Q8, Haikelite MT07) > ~5A per cell > Panasonic NCR18650B
~10000 lumens (Haikelite MT03, Astrolux MF01) > ~10A per cell > Sanyo NCR18650GA, Samsung 35E, LG MJ1
~15000 lumens (Haikelite MT09R, Imalent DT70) > ~15A per cell > Samsung 30Q, Sony VTC6

Again, this is just a basic rule of thumb. So 5A Panasonic NCR18650B should be sufficient for you. However, you may want to invest in the future by getting higher current cells. I would certainly get at least 10A cells, but I’d go with 15A cells. You loose just a bit of capacity, but you’re really future proof. It can also vever hurt to go with more powerful cells.
I’d get button top cells for good contact, and I’d purchase cells from a trusted vendor. In the USA these are:

There are no doubt other trusted sellers, but I’d certainly not buy them from a random ebay or aliexpress seller.

Check your intro thread. If you want you can have cells today for it if your only 5 miles from me. I have a set of the GA cells and a set of 30q I can solder blob. Or a good place to order batteries is imr or mtnelectronics

Thanks, I see that now on Tom E’s review about the Sanyo NCR18650GA 10A batteries. My MT07 did not come with info on specs, only a 1 page operation description sheet. After some research ( before arriving at BLF ), I had ordered 4 - Panasonic NCR18650B 3350mAh Battery - Button Top’s from IMRbatteries.com. The order was done late this past Friday so I’m trying to cancel it now by Email. But if not, I will use them in a NightRaid flashlight. I had expressed in the Email to change the order to 4 - Samsung 30Q 18650 3000mAh 15A Flat Top Battery, so we will see tomorrow what happens. Guess you can see

How to recognize the mt 07 8000 lumens from the 5000 lumens? Banggood says cw 8000 lumens nw 4500 lumens, too much difference.
Old model cw 5000 nw 4500!!! Where is the problem?

The 70.2 will not do 8,000 lumen in a flashlight, so forget that number.

It’s probably 5,000 and 4,500. I don’t think they sell the old version anymore so anything you buy today is going to be easy newer upgraded version.

Iirc, the old version used an OP reflector and a xhp70. The upgrade version uses an SMO reflector and a xhp70.2.

Yea, I see the BG listing is updated but not the HL website. 8K vs. 4.5K is quite strange. Possible they boosted it up from the 5K of the old model, maybe, maybe not 8K, but they left the NW claim as-is.

I still like this light - nice hunk of a thrower. Mine is dedomed now.

Thank you for answering. The first haikelite was xhp70 and orange peel 5000 lumens cw; the next one in my possession foresees the xhp 70.2 and the smooth dish always 5000 cw; the current from BG and GB but not from Haikelite says 8000 CW. Where is the fraud?

Those 2 upgrades will not result in a 5000 to 8000 lumens bump, no way. They could have made other changes, like resistor changes, like I did on mine, to bump the amps. What Jason is saying is 8000 lumens from a single XHP70.2 is probably not realistic for a stock light like this. Note that the GT70 is rated at 7500 and that's bout the best you will see on a stock light, and it appears Haikelite wanted to beat that claim, I doubt it's real though, could be, but we doubt it.

Theres no fraud, just exaggerated claims like most companies. You have to learn to read between the lines and also check reviews. Surely there were some people that measured the lumens earlier in this thread. (For the updated version)

The GT70 is using a FET driver pushing the 70.2 really hard. I can’t remember what driver this MT07 is using, but I don’t think it’s a FET.

I’ve the MT07 5000 cw, it’s reasonable for you to buy another MT07 perhaps 8000? (if true?

The MT07S is the most recent, and best version of the MT07 family.

It uses a 4S-6V buck driver, meaning output is completely stable over the course of the runtime.

Also, 5000lm is for the 6500k 70CRI version, and 4500 lumens is for the 4800k 80CRI version.

There is no 8000 lumens MT07/MT07S.

Maybe it really is close to 5,000 lumen in cool white? It might be close to 4,000. I don’t know, I don’t have this light.

Haikelite has not treated a lot of customers well lately and has also had some badly designed lights so that brand is not very popular at the moment.

Maybe they swapped emitter for a generic one that delivers 1000 lumens of 8000K light but got confused about the specs?
