There own description must be wrong (Not the First Time)
I have 2 of the 10b’s and like them, thought this one was different.
Thanks for a first hand review.
Just pulled my Red 10b and tested it and it is exactly as you describe.
So have to wonder if the latest 10a’s have the same UI as the 10b’s now?
Later,
Keith
I think it’s the UI from the sp10b. Moon is pretty low, perfect for slipping through the house at night without waking anyone or on your way to the thrown.
If you go to the aliexpress offical sofirn store they have the sp10a there that says “bright mini flashlight update to 5 modes”
I can not quarantee that the sp10a on amazon is the same sp10a on aliexpress. I ordered mine from aliexpress about a week and a half ago.
They both have the UI I explained which appears to be the UI the sp10b has but now black is a 10a and colors are 10b same UI.
At least that’s how I take it. The amazon sp10a could be a older version they’re getting rid of, I just don’t know for sure.
If it’s the older version I’ll just mod with a different driver and add a mount for the switch.
The old (original) ’A had no firefly mode, just L/M/H in the main cycle, strobe on doubleclick.
This new ’A is a renamed ’B as far as I’ve heard. My own ’B has F/L/M in the main cycle, H on doubleclick, strobe on tripleclick, lockout on quadclick. So old ’A became a new ’B but is different, and the new ’A is the old ’B but just renamed.
Confused yet? My head hurts…
I could use a slightly brighter F mode, but to me it’s still usable, as I’ve got eyes like a cat.
Oh man, I’m really confused now.
I do know that I have 2 SP10A’s bought from Sofirn official store at Aliexpress that has what apparently is the old SP10B UI.
As for everything else I’m total lost. :person_facepalming:
Wellp, the old/original ’A had a bit of a greenish tint (shades of Jetbeam…), whereas the ’B is quite neutral.
Gf loves the old ’A, as it’s L/M/H only, simple and to-the-point. F could if anything just be left on accidentally and keep burning ’til the cell’s spent. Aimed at pretty much anything in anything brighter than pitch-black darkness, and you’ll never see the beam except by looking right down the reflector. She doesn’t use F, but I do. Perfect! The old ’A is exactly what she needs.
Me, yeah, I usually flick it back to F when I’m done using it, so that it comes on in F and doesn’t blind me. If I need anything brighter, I flick it to L or M. If I want bright light, I just doubleclick right to H and I’m done. Perfect! It’s almost exactly what I need. (I’d lessen the huge cavernous jump between F and L.)
That’s the nice thing about different UIs, even in the “same” light.
And the new ’A ostensibly has the same UI as the ’B. Ain’t got a new ’A (yet? dunno what these are, old or new or something else entirely), so can’t say.
So… what you mean by “the old SP10B UI”, I’m not sure.
FWIW, the SP10B red I got from Amazon about 2 months ago has a moonlight mode that is significantly below 1 lumen, just based on comparison to some other lights I own that also claim to have a 1 lumen mode which is significantly brigher, like say Utorch UT01.
Again, not necessarily a bad thing - just different.
My SP10B also has some green in its tint, but it’s mainly visible in photos and not really in real life.
I bought one and sent it back because the moonlight was too dim to be usable. After reading comments from others here, I thought maybe mine was defective. But it sounds like you had the same experience, although it doesn’t seem to be the problem for you that it was for me.
