Wuben had reserved the emitters when the GB started. [That’s why they didn’t agree on trying Nichias even though I would have originally wanted to run this GB with Nichias]
Their supplier provided samples of those emitters, Wuben made the sample lights, and me & maukka tested them.
The supplier should have delivered the batch of emitters right after the Qing Ming Jie (Chinese holiday on April 5th - 6th).
However, at the beginning of this week, Wuben noticed that they don’t yet have the emitters. Supplier told them they are backordered.
Wuben tried to source the same emitters from multiple other suppliers, without success. Everyone tells that they are backordered and will arrive in 8-10 weeks.
I checked my usual supplier (Mouser) and they told me the same story.
I don’t have any idea why the supplier wasn’t able to deliver or why those emitters were suddenly out of stock everywhere.
Anyways, I can’t really blame Wuben on this and hope you don’t do that either.
Both me and Wuben are very sorry about the hassle. Please accept our sincere apologies!
We are now working hard to find an acceptable solution. At the moment Nichia 4000K looks like the best option, but we have not decided on that yet. Please stay tuned!
I too would like to stick with XP-G3 as I prefer the 5000k color temp. I will wait for additional updates. If those who prefer the XP-G3 are in the extreme extreme minority than maybe there’s enough XP-G3s for those who want them ? Obviously, this would create an additional burden for you tracking wise as everybody’s preference would need to be recorded. Just bouncing some ideas.
1. Nichia 4500K (It seems to me that this is the best solution. Not too warm, not too cold.)
2. Nichia 5000K
2. Nichia 4000K
3. CREE 4500K
3. CREE 5000K (but 10 weeks !?)
a) In any scenario, I will prefer High CRI over lower!
b) In any scenario, I will prefer more NW than WW tint! BUT, if Nichia 4000K is the final offer, I will gladly take it, for the flashlight and the emitters I ordered!
Thanks =the= for managing the situation and informing us :+1:
Hopefully not too confusing. Either of the first two Nichias would be fabulous. For the Nichia 4000K and the CREEs, I’d rather have the light than not, so really it comes down to whichever is likely to be a guaranteed delivery.
