Texas_Ace MT09R Modding thread, 20k+ lumens, 80CRI, can start fires? Yes please.

And those 70.2 emitter are not cheap. Not if you want a good bin top quality LED....

TA, I got my driver all wired up and I’m having problems with powering up the light. Once I screw in the battery tube, I get the 2 blinks and the button lighting up. However, when I press the switch nothing happens. So the issue might be that the driver is not sitting on the shelf properly and I need to add solder blobs to the top side of the driver to make better contact? Or is it some other issue? Thanks for any input you can give and I bypassed all 5 springs if that makes any difference.

Ok, I added some solder on the ground ring and that did the trick. I think my neighbors will get pissed if I take the light out right now to test it out… But wow this is like a totally different light now!

Glad you got it working, I am not sure why some lights need the solder blob, I have only had 2 so far that needed it. All the others were fine.

These PCB’s are slightly thinner then the factory pcb (1.6mm vs 2.0mm), but you would not think that would cause a problem.

Hey texas ace. Paypal sent for the mt07s

What a joy to have that smooth ramping, starting from Moon, 2x turbo, etc. Love it!
However…
I’ve decided to go full monty and change out the emitters, LOL!

SOME QUESTIONS
Where can I find the PDF for Narsil 1.3 instructions?
Does the button light stay on all the time? (probably answered in the instructions)

THANKS!

Ok, I will be on the look out for it and add the LED’s to the order.

The indicator LED can be turned off but by default it remains on.

Here is the cheat sheet for the GT, this driver is basically the same when it comes to the user interface, mostly back end changes since then.

Ok, I got in another light yesterday This one from AviationTech. He just wanted me to upgrade the driver and bypass all the springs on his stock Warm white XHP70.2 emitters.

I took some before measurements with fresh off the charger cells and go a bit over 13k lumens.

After the driver swap and bypasses with the stock LED’s it is now doing a bit over 17k lumens. So basically it added a Q8 worth of light just by swapping the driver and bypassing the springs.

The tint on the “Warm white” (I would call it neutral myself) is quite good, ever so slightly cooler then the 4000k 80cri I have been using. It seems to be a bit lower cri but that could just be a trick of the tint. It is a fair amount lower output though as you can tell. You can gain almost another Q8 worth of output from swapping the LED’s.

Oh I have not posted about it I don’t think but at the 50% power level most lights are between 11k-14k lumens. So almost the same output at 50% on this new driver with spring bypasses as the stock light was at max. In this lights case it was making 12k at the top of the ramp.

That catches me up until I see what shows up in the mail today. Now I need to finish testing and building the XHP70.2 Giggles so I can list it for sale.

In an early test with 8 cells driving it I actually saw over 10k lumens from the LED for a few seconds :sunglasses:

I will place the LED order this evening most likely

Ok, I just found a new XHP70.2 LED option that I KNOW some people will be interested in.

It is an N4 bin (1 below P2) 5000k 70cri emitter that should give that nice balance many have asked for between the 4000k and 5700k.

I had a few others like this from another source (It might have been KD, forgot who) and they looked good in the lights that got them.

If anyone wants them let me know soon. I will most likely order a set anyways since I am sure someone will want them at some point.

Thank you for doing it TA. Fast turn around. I will be getting on saturaday… do you recommend sony vtc5a for xhp70.2 and xhp35.

No problem! I try to treat customer orders as if they were my own and once I have paid for something I can not have it in my hands fast enough! lol.

The XHP70.2 needs high drain cells for sure, it could pull up to ~20A a cell at peak (although it seems to stabilize a bit lower then that on 30Q’s.)

For the xhp35 it doesn’t really matter, any quality cell should work, I use GA’s in my xhp35, 35E would also work. They only need to support around ~8-9A. I prefer 3500ma cells myself for the longer runtime and less stress on the LED’s.

Also, this goes for ALL MT09R’s. DO NOT over tighten the tailcap. There is no hard stop, you will only crush the cells. Just tighten until snug, that is it.

Well I had his light ready to ship when he told me he wanted to go ahead and swap the LED’s for the 4000k 80CRI.

So I swapped the LED’s and it is now doing a bit over 21k lumens with the same cells I did the prior 2 tests with. Figure around 22k on full cells. Or a Q8 added on top of what it was doing already. :sunglasses:

I also got it back out before the mailman came so it is still going out today.

Wow TA, that’s awesome. You’re a wizard. Thanks for all your hard work and effort with this entire project. So the light went from original 13k to 21k, that’s an amazing improvement. I probably won’t even recognize the light. Its like getting a brand new light. Thanks again. Can’t wait to try it

Yeah, at the top of the ramp with 50% duty it was doing basically the same as the old driver did on turbo. So you will have a basically back to back comparison between the old driver and the new one.

Although once lights get that bright all you can really tell is that it hurts a lot more to look at lol.

I will be shipping all of the new orders to you together. I have not yet checked DHL but I'm guessing it will be the 18th or the 19th when they arrive. And I will begin shipping them as soon as they arrive.

Guys I still have a decent amount of the 30 units I ordered. Right now is the time to get them at a price far below retail. Almost 40 percent below retail.

Any left I will be paying for TA drivers myself and installing them and the price then will go back to retail.

So right now it's almost 40 percent off and I can ship the to TA in bulk when they arrive which will speed things up a lot on the turn around time and then shipped ready to go to you.

Dale is not happy at all with the price I am letting the go for buy I will take the heat for that. Our agreement for the dealership was following their set retail. This is usually referred to in the retail business as MOP pricing.

This is also the last of the blue and green colors. Those will not be produced again.

Also TA has agreed to international shipping as long as the buyer pays the shipping so these are not restricted to just rhd U.S. and Canada.

Thanks everyone... You are really going to love this light.

What color is the blue one? I tried looking for pictures and I see a really dark blue and there is also a bright blue almost purple.

Is the gold one available? I like the metallic gold one.

These were special colors for the group buy and are no longer available. (I think Terry White might have a few blue and green coming)

The blue is a dark navy with a little color shift looking effect.

The gold/tan is actually a brown, khaki color.

Do you mean the white color? It looks a bit silver. You would have to show us which color you mean.

There are pictures on Terry’s website. https://hesaidshesaidsales.com

The blue and green are what I ordered and I ordered all that were left of each. 15 units of each.

They are both really nice colors. The blue is really nice. The pictures are not even close to how good it looks when it is in front of you.

The gold they actually call sandstone and those are sold out. The darker blue (as far as I know) and the green are the units coming. Even the darker navy blue looks a ton better than I any of those pictures.

I just called and asked Dale and the blue is the darker navy blue. Both really are far better looking than those pictures.

I can't even decide which I want to keep for myself. I like the blue a lot it that green I've just never seen on a light or really anything else lol.
