Shock no, The magnet is pretty weak. I had planned on replacing it but have never got around to it. Truthfully I rarely use it doing mechanic work and mostly sticking to my grill when I’m cooking during the evening.
I searched around the normal overseas vendors I look at and couldn’t find anything. You know they are being made over there and sold over here so somebody should have them for sale.
You’re right about that, I still couldn’t find any sellers. I kinda figured out another alternative. Buy a tripod flashlight holder and a ball joint tripod mount will flat base and stick a neodymium magnet beneath it. looks like the whole setup could be done below 5$
I like the idea of improvising a magnet mount with it as well. I avoid permanently attached magnets on my lights, because sooner or later I’d forget and demagnetise something, be it my credit card or my hard disk…
My biggest problem with attached magnets is out in the shop, grinding dust and metal shavings. Nothing like grabbing your light with a razor sharp sliver stuck to the end. Even worse is sticking the light to a finished metal panel and embedding metal in the paint or scratching it all to crap. My thumb will at least heal pretty fast.
I once rolled a heavy speaker magnet through the soil for while and when I picked it up it was covered in tough to remove iron dust. :person_facepalming:
Any magnet that I plan on sticking to my car paint will have an additional layer of foam in front of it. Moreover I tend to choose magnets that are not powerful but can barely hold the weight of the flashlight coz if the magnet is too powerful then one cannot just pull it away but will have to slide the magnet to the edge causing it to scratch all over the surface.
