ENEDED

I am interested in the MM18JR 70.2 depending on price

In my opinion ramping is overrated. Its use is limited and is meant for adjusting output only. Most of the time users are using flashlight, not adjusting it’s output with such a fine steps.

Control ring is realy good as long as you have an on-off button switch as well.
Ramping is a gimmick……only for showing off :stuck_out_tongue: ……which I am guilty of
I have only 2 suggestions….

  1. make the mode switch flush with body so it does not get in the way and on-off switch to protrude (so it is easy to feel for in the dark).
  2. Have the rear button as a dedicated (or programmable) turbo switch.

………just my 2 cents worth :innocent:

edit to add, I am loving my new Vostro. It is a huge improvement over my old ones in every way!!!

……oh, and 3. make it more powerful :smiling_imp:

You must not be familiar with it or else not use powerful flashlights with it.

On a high powered light the fine output level control allows you to control the heat. I will typically set my 9000 lumen Convoy L6 to about 70% power for typical use. This keeps the heat down and makes the batteries last longer. I can then dbl click to 100% for short bursts since the heat and battery drain is massive. Then it will go back to my preset 70%.

I also have a smaller light that I typically set at about 2000 lumen, depending on my needs. Dbl click for 4000 lumen, for short bursts due to high heat and battery drain, then go back to the memorized 2000 lumen.

You really can’t do this with typical drivers that have low, med, high unless you program the drivers yourself to custom levels.

Plus Narsil has extra stuff like the 2 digit battery voltage. You will know if your at 3.4v, 3.8v, 4.1v, etc… It’s much better than the different color lights that represent a range of voltages.

It’s not quite as useful on low powered lights like the GT or similar xhp35 lights where you either use 2A or 2.5A all the time. You still get the other features of Narsil, though.

So I would not be too quick to judge ramping.

I have the Ultrafire UF-T50 6 years ago, it was the earliest flashlight with ramping, it was fun but not really useful. Of course ramping get faster now and more advanced.
And I get BLF GT this year and I don’t use its ramping after playing with it. It is just adjusting output where a few well-spaced levels are enough for most people. Zebralight do it with a lot of levels to suit everyone. Of course some people still complain those level don’t suit them. For these people I think multiple programmable levels will suit them much better and faster than ramping.

I am talking about ramping, not voltage check feature.

I think I judge thing quite objectively and after I used them and think about its speed and purpose. When I use flashlight, I don’t want to ramp and make judgement is the brightness enough. I just click to levels predetermined for example 10, 50, 100% depending on application. Why double click to turbo when you can single click to turbo, it is so comfortable without off and on again due to double click.

Even high power flashlight can have predetermined levels that don’t consume too much battery power nor heat up too fast. I don’t think only ramping can do this.
With thermal regulation, single click to turbo is not a problem, it will drop to suitable output based on temperature, and that will save battery power too.

I want the Vostro BK-FA30S Thanks//Larry

Thanks for your inputs, i will definitely share it with Niwalker. I find predetermined or customizable levels are much more convenient than ramping too.

Actually Niwalker has a potential winner here with the extra switch A and B where they can memorize the level.
I put switch B to Turbo for instant turbo, while switch A is randomly used for different situation.
Switch A and B also act as On/Off switch which is really clever.

I suggest Niwalker stay with the original design and continue this unique feature of Niwalker. But they have to redesign or readjust their parts to make it more consistent. FW might help to improve it but if it is mechanical problem, better solve it mechanically.
Rotary switch is nightmare for modder and not as easy if we compare twisting and clicking. Click button and switch are easy to replace too when they wear out in future.

Another suggestion from me is there is no grip on the head, it is complete smooth. Quite tough to twist the battery tube open to change batteries where the thrower head is so big and smooth. So I grip on the buttons area but quite easy to accidentally switch on flashlight.

If I may ask….have you honestly wore out a switch on any of the lights you own, ever? I doubt it very much haha.

I didn’t wear out any yet. Maybe because I bought too many lights. :sunglasses:
But my car remote switch on PCB did wear out so I think maybe it can happen to flashlight too.

Come to think about this extra switches on Niwalker, maybe they can make it to remember ramping mode(if Niwalker develop one) if it is just firmware code development and won’t increase their cost much experimenting with it. If it works at the end, predetermined mode and ramping mode can be access easily for different purposes if user program the switches to remember them. I understand why people like ramping mode, it is fun and some people just like to adjust the level to their perfect preference. From the beginning I don’t mean to say ramping is completely useless, what I meant to say was it is overrated when people say it is superior than predetermined level mode and suggest manufacturer to switch to ramping UI.

Hi, please send me details. Thanks!

I just received my BK-FA30S

Thanks!!!

♥ Niwalker GIVEAWAY 2018!!! thread is UP!

I just received my nova 18iii today
thank you freeme

I have a question to ask for nova 18iii. When I entered the SOS mode when press-hold, then did not change to warning flash and beacon

How about single or double click? I do not have a sample with me now. For my VOSTRO, it took less than a second of hold time to switch to other flashing modes.

double click to SOS mode I press-hole but did not change

ok i can get to warning flash and beacon
