Texas_Ace MT09R Modding thread, 20k+ lumens, 80CRI, can start fires? Yes please.

With the P2 bin emitters there is some room for improvement if you could feed them more power. 25k lumens should be within the realm of possibilities I think.

The 80cri 4000k LED’s are already basically maxed out, I would not want to feed them much more power if I could. They are already being driven very hard indeed.

You would need to determine how much amperage you would need to max out three of the 70.2. In the L6, which uses a pair of 26650 cells, people tend to get around 18 amps. In a custom GT using 4 18650 cells you can get 21-22 amps.

So if we say 20A is what we want, then with 3 emitters we would need 60 amps (at 6 volts, not 3 volts). I don’t see that happening with 18650 celks, even with the extended MT09R battery tube. I’m sure it will increase current and output, but I don’t think it would give 60 amps.

On the other hand, we might be able to get 60 amps using 4 21700 batteries.

DBCUSTOM has a custom light using 3 xhp70.2 and he tried 2 of the new Samsung 30T cells in it (in series to provide the proper voltage). It pulled about 48 amps! That’s pretty crazy right there. Each cell has about 10 to 12 milliohms of internal resistance and are capable of 40A continous. I bet 4 of them in a 2S2P setup could get us there assuming the springs and driver could handle the current.

So to answer your question, Yes.

But why do that when you can build a 4 emitter light and run them at a more efficient level? 4 emitters at the same 60 amp level (15A each instead of 20A) would put out 34,400 lumen!

Anyway, hope that helps.

It depends on the cell. 4 of the new 30T cells should outperform 8 30Q as far as amperage. I think about 25% more amperage, but you trade off run time.

Sorry guys with everything that has been going on I totally forgot to mention that Dale's daughter is back home and is feeling much better.

Waiting for the beamshot of the MT03 too! from 8750 lumen to 20k lumen is very impressive! And I love flood lights… can’t wait to see how it’s going to do…
Also side question… TA do you mod other lights too? such as MF01… the UI on that isn’t very good and I want to have ramp mod on that too (plus some extra power lol)

I can indeed mod other lights as well if it is worth my time. I have had a few MT07’s sent my way and have an S70 and L6 heading this way I think as well as a few other lights.

It just depends on if I think I can make a worthwhile improvement to the light. I don’t want people wasting their money for lackluster results.

In the case of the MF01, I have not personally seen one so I am not sure what improvements there are to be made with it. I am sure they are possible, just not sure what they are without pulling it apart for myself.

At one point Banggood wanted me to make a new driver for the MF01 or MF03 but I never really heard back from them. I think they actually sent me a prototype driver for the MF03 to look at but no light to try it in :person_facepalming:

I would be super excited if it is the MF03. With your driver, this monster can probably do 60k lumens!

I hope Haikelite also have something similar coming up because HL seems to have better build quality and I don’t like the battery carrier on the Astrolux, which is very inconvenient.

Interesting, how many cells are powering it?

With 8 cells and a low resistance build with dual FET’s and 50k+ lumens should be well within reach. But naturally I have not tried it so can’t say for sure. Things do not always scale the way you think they will.

50k+ lumen after mod? Damn…! That’s going to be very dangerous lol.

Question:
Does MT09R throw more than the BLF Q8? I ask because I’m a fan of flood lights and the Q8 might be my limit of the throw… not saying it’s a bad thing. I just like to have a sea of light in front of me lol.
I have the following “big lumen” lights: MT03, MF01, BLF Q8. Where does the MT09R landed in terms of flood.

Flood effect in orders: MT03> MF01> BLF Q8

The MT90 does throw further then the Q8 but it also have between 2x-5x the lumens so that figures.

It also has quite a bit of flood although if you really want flood then go with the MT03, that is the best flooder I have seen

The MT09 is kind of like the Q8 with 4-5 x the lumens lol.

If it’s the big lumen that’s making it throwing far away then that’s giving. If they all have the same lumen and throw the same then I’m really close from pulling triggers lol.

Last question (hopefully…) is the Price for modding MT03 the same as MT09? , I have the XHP 70, 9000 lumen version. And I’m talking about upgrading LED to achieve 20k lumen

The MT09R has a much floodier spill than the MF01. The MF01 beam is more focused. I put DC-Fix on my MT09R and the beam is PERFECT. Great flood, good throw, and smooth hotspot transition.

Also I have two MF01. One is stock and the other one is modded by Lexel. The Lexel modded one with buck driver puts out 1615 lux at startup and the stock puts out 1244 lux at startup on fully charged VTC6 batteries. UI on the modded one is idential to the Emisar D4, which is much better than the crappy Astrolux driver. However, lumens decreases rapidly the moment you turn it on similar to the D4. The stock MT09R holds brightness much better than the MF01 but then it is larger and also didn’t have thermal regulation.

Whaaa! I really like the MF01 but too bad it’s UI sucks compared to the Q8.
So you’re saying it has more flood and spill than MF01?! If you have a moment can you (or anyone) do a good shot of how the MT09R lights up the area? Thanks!

Yea. You would want something like an acebeam x65 for the high lumen thrower…

The extra throw comes from a combo of the lumens and the reflector size. Even when split up into multiple LED’s the larger the total reflector size, the further the throw as a rule. There are so many more lumens the it is simply brighter everywhere. Although if you turn it down then yes, it would have a bit less flood and a bit more throw then the Q8 as equal outputs.

Yes, the MT03 is the same price as the MT09 as long as the batteries are 2s2p, if they are 4S there is $15 extra labor to convert it.

And here comes another question :person_facepalming:
4S means all battery insert the same direction right….?
Mine is 2 in 2 out so I would assume that’s 2S2P?

Does anyone know what are the best batteries to power the MT03?

I have the Sony VTC 6. But for maximum power (without testing) the VTC 5A should give you more

Are the 2 cells pointing up/down side by side or diagonal?

These are good cells, I generally just use 30Q myself since they are cheaper.
