Texas_Ace MT09R Modding thread, 20k+ lumens, 80CRI, can start fires? Yes please.

Uhh, modding the MF01 with XPL Hi would be interesting, but not really useful.

You’d lose the best aspect of the MF01: the 219C LEDs are absolutely marvelous in terms of color rendition.

I completely agree. It’s the 219C 90+ Nichia CRI that makes this light worth modding or even owning. I really like the CRI on this because the colors do show up better than even the 80 or 90 CRI Crees. Tintwise, I prefer the XHP70.2 4000k 80CRI because it has less green.

Actually come to think about it, if you can put in XPL2 80CRI high bin emitters (not sure if it fits), I wonder if you can get it to pump out 22k+ lumens, in which case, that would be very interesting indeed in a very focused beam with good tint.

Hey, Texas Ace, looks like my light arrived at your place! FedEx tracking said delivered around 1pm.
Hope the mod goes well!
Did I hear you were out of the 5700k p2 70.2 emitters?

From the factory they have polarity protection, you would have to remove that to use flat top cells. Although I highly recommend not doing that, bad things would happen if you put a cell in backwards.

The easiest option is to solder blob the cells. Thats what I do.

Thanks for the info, yes I would need to examine the light before I could quote a price.

Yep, I can mod that just like an MT09. Makes for a very nice light indeed.

The prices and options are the same as the MT09.

Yep, I think that is the box sitting next to me.

I just got my latest order of LED’s in the other day, that should give me all the LED’s I need to finish off all the current orders as of early this week.

I am out of drivers though, the last one I have is being sent to HL for testing next week. I have the components to make more drivers and just waiting for more pcb’s. They should be in Wednesday. About the same time the lights from Terry show up (which is why I told him to wait). I will start up work on these mods again late next week. It will take me a day or 2 to build the drivers.

I needed a few days off anyways, got a lot of other things to take care of in real life during this “downtime”.

Fortunately, I don’t need a driver - yours is already installed
Just the LED swap, as I installed your driver and did the spring bypass a week ago when your driver came in.
But I understand the need for rest though.
I wonder what the lumens are with everything but the new emitters? I may have to buy one of your lumen tubes…
Have a blessed day!

Ah, I forgot which one that was that was coming with the driver already. In that case I can most likely knock yours out this weekend. Maybe tonight actually since the spring bypass is done, I am so sick of bypassing those springs lol.

Oh and I forgot the lights I was supposed to drop off today at home when I left this morning, so they will go out tomorrow instead. Sorry about that.

WHOO HOO

No kidding on the tedious spring bypass!
I did all five, sloppily, but with your new driver the main spring initially got hot almost immediately. After bypassing with 18 gauge wire, it doesn’t even get warm all the way to light step down. Definitely a necessary step.

Yep, the driver spring will melt for sure and the rest of the springs are pushed well past ideal without the bypasses.

I can instantly tell which lights were used and which were shelf queens when they come to me by how collapsed the driver spring is.

If you got a moment can you do some night shot with modded MT03 turbo out? I want to see that flooding my back yard lol

Hmm, not sure if I have one on hand right now but I should have one for myself by the time I take the XHP70.2 GT out for some beamshots, I will try to remember to take it along for comparison, also the mt09R.

I forgot i am getting my mt07s 10k lumen light today. It is going to be a great night because the most i ever lift from the single xhp70.2 is 6700 lumen. 3000 lumen step up from the single emitter…

Hope you like it! It is very impressive for a single emitter.

10K from a single XHP70.2? I thought they peaked at about 9K?

In the “hot test” yes a bit over 9k but from a cold start they can peak over 10k for a few seconds and then it drops as the light heats up until it stabilizes in the low to mid 9k range.

I may send you one to install one of those for myself.

Ok, it looks like I got packages from BimmerNut318, Saypat and 808HI today.

I will open them up and see if any of them don’t need xhp70 drivers later, I am pretty sure Saypat does not. Any that don’t I will try to get finished on Monday.

The rest will have to wait until I get the next driver PCB’s, and build the drivers. It should be end of next week when I can start working on the rest of those lights.
