To the experienced diving light guys. Straight Question... (Solarstorm DX4s?)

A very good friend asked me to build him a diving light. So, the straight question…

What do I buy if I need a…

  • As budget as possible…
  • No questions asked reliable up to 50-80m dives…
  • 18650, preferably 26650 (dual cell should be fine) based…
  • Highly moddable (want to build a FET based light)

…diving light?

So, is the Solarstorm DX4S maybe the light I should be looking at…? TomE did a nice mod on this light with seemingly good success. Is the DX4S spot on reliable? Does it throw enough for a diving application, one can obviously dedome that will help. Any better other options?

How about this one?

Neither of these lights are even rated to go to 80m.

Hi,
In my experience there`s not really a good reason for moding anymore, only if your really need an very special thing.
for exaple I moded the brinyte div09 from xml to xhp50, easy peasy, just change the led an done…. keep the 4 light modes as original, and to change the led it is very easy accessable. I could show you If you need

now to get drivers and stuff it is too dificult…
the brinytes I know they say either to 150m or 200m, and I thrust them, very good quality made, have opened a few ones, currentlly on the div01, also to xhp50…ehehehe

By FET what do you mean exactlly?

Three years ago I have bought this light for a diver: https://www.banggood.com/ARCHON-V10S-XM-L-U2-860LM-Professional-Diving-LED-Flashlight-p-931318.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN , and swapped the XM-L2 led for a nice neutral 3-tint. She uses it regularly, it has been to 50 meters with no problem and is she is very happy with it.

What a rare combo...
