Agreed with the rubber boots. I prefer the look of the metal button, but I think I remember reading it had some water resistance issues - were those ever fixed?
I tend to favor deeper, more saturated colors with less of a shine but I get that there are some real limits on what can be done with colored anodized aluminum.
In general, colored anodized aluminum has a cheap vibe for me, with a particular dislike of “gold” and “copper” finishes, but there are plenty of examples that escape that vibe. Just getting rid of any polished areas really helps.
I like the Red S2+ I have, and I think I’d like the blue one, too, but I don’t have one for reference. I think my favorite red is the one on the red Astrolux A01. I don’t know how much of it is the dye color they used, but I’m sure that the texture of the metal before anodizing has a lot to do with making it look deep and rich.
So, all that said, none of the three really speak to me. The purple, orange and cyan-blue would probably interest me, if they were more saturated, but, it seems pretty clear to me that isn’t what Simon is going for here. This looks like a new color family.
I showed the photos to my wife (who is kind of a genius when it comes to color), and her first reaction was that they were “girly.” She then added that they might not make the same impression if they were pictured in isolation from one another, or in a different color context. I asked if she’d want any of them, and she said “oh yeah, the purple, and the turquoisish.” For what it is worth, just this morning she was admiring the pleasing thingness of the Convoy S9 I gave her earlier this year, including its deep, matte, blackness.
