I'm happy you're gone. I've always hated you

Tonight as I broke a ceramic lime juicer I couldn't be happier to see it go . . It didn't work well ,it wasn't very interesting and it was just taking up counter space. When it took a nose dive off the microwave I was pleased to sweep up the shards and bid it farewell .

<< not this nice ...

This whole abusing things i disliked started with stinky bars of soap and shampoo that smelled so badly I started using it to clean the toilet .

John Frieda Paris /London /New York ...-> septic tank cleaner

Do you have a Samremu knife you thought you wanted but now get joy out of using it to dig weeds out of cracks in your driveway ?

Something very satisfying about using a bad bottle of wine to clean the rims and tires on your bike

So the question is,,, Do you have stuff you love to hate ?

It’s not stuff but……satellite internet. Hate it but its the only game in the mountains where we live. 10 lousy gb’s per month. Oh, it’s free access between 2 and 8 AM, but I’m on my way to work or working during those hours. Oops, I’m eating up megabytes as I speak….gotta go.

Satellite internet, no kidding, what a nightmare. One of my family lives out in the sticks and depended on it for a few years but really hated that often it would operate at dial up speeds or just hang and go nowhere.

My beef is with tin can openers. Everyone I purchase seems to be worse than the last one. What happened to the old days where a can opener lasted a lifetime. Must be one still left with good quality steel.

Wellp, I don’t hate it, but my poor little bobofett light. It’s been beat to Hell and back (like bobofett’s helmet), always worked flawlessly, but lately the side-clicky (actual power on/off, not an e-switch!) has been going wonky. Intermittent, blinky, dim and flickery ’til you whack the light on the table and it lights up bright, etc.

Can’t bring myself to toss it or do anything bad to it, not as long as it still lights at all. So it’s my go-to tailstander when I go prowling around at night.

Problem is, the whole midsection seems… sealed. Nothing obvious. No retaining ring, no set-screws, nothing. Would like to just replace the switch, or at least clean the contacts, something.

So, maybe, if it goes teats-up, I’ll bring myself to scrounging it for parts, and destructively dissecting it figure out how to get that section apart.

Tell me about it. Same style of 4-5 can-openers “we” (family) had since I was a kid, eventually disappeared 1 by 1 over the years. They could open even tight-radiused corners of sardine cans. New ones will “jump the track” on even tuny-fish cans. I’d rather use a P-38 on the damned things nowadays…

Scissors, too. Had polished SS or maybe even Cr-plated scissors that were precision instruments. Only thing you can find today are lousy-finish garbage. I got 1 pair left that I’m treating like Au and keeping them safe so no one walks off with them.

Slightly off topic but if you want a can opener that always works then you can’t go wrong with the classic P38

It has replaced all other can openers for me though I still keep a side-cutting opener around for the occasional DIY stove project.

Yeah, I got a buncha them and P-51s (easier to hold/grip).

I’m thinking Boaz needs to go out more often with the guys to a Rugby game, boxing match, or sumthin. Or at least crash a hard-core Tupperware Party.

I might surprise my wife and get a P51 or P38 just for kicks. I got a feeling once she gets used to it she'll probably never part with it. Bought my wife a three pack of those Costo titanium coated scissors. Bet before the year is done, they will be toast too, but she likes them so far.

:+1:

I had a Karmann Ghia that I tried to blow up with every shift.

I give it credit for taking a pounding .

I have some pretty old 18650’s that still have life left in them. Really want to just recycle them and get some new fresh ones. Can’t do it though as I don’t want to be wasteful lol :weary:

Arc AAA that CPF raved about long time ago, I got one to see what was all the fuss about, it never worked when I needed it, I tried cleaning the treads, removing the foam piece etc, it only worked when it wanted to!!! It pissed me off so much that it met its maker under a sledge hammer, damn that felt so satisfying!!!

Yeah I think people have no idea how good it feels.
I remember taking a new Sk68 out of the box and immediately taking a serrated steak knife to it . So much joy in just disrespecting such a huge piece of crap.

My satellite internet is free access from 3am to 8am, and because I sleep such strange hours, I'm actually awake sometimes during that time.

It's really expensive, too.

@Boaz
My mother used to have one of those awful things and used it for several years! I might still have it stashed away in the basement somewhere. Give it a few months and you’ll probably begin to miss yours. If so, you can have mine for the cost of shipping!

@THE_dAY
Dont you dare even think about recycling those cells… until they either:

Become reverse charged
Wont provide more than 10mah capacity
Detonated inside your charger or flashlight, sending deadly shrapnel and toxic gasses everywhere!

If you want to read about some awful products, check out some of the harbor freight threads scattered around the net. Not all of their tools are junk, but a good amount sure are.

FlashPilot, when you put it that way maybe it’s time to order some new ones and put those old boys to rest. :open_mouth:

Btw, a new harbor freight store opened up here just around the block a few months ago. Haven’t been to it yet but I guess now that’s a good thing!

I can add another item to the list of unpleasant things you might expect from aging 18650’s. Toxic fumes being vented while recharging. My eyes, sinuses, throat and lungs used to burn for several days after recharging recovered cells. It wasn’t immediately apparent what was causing it, since I have so many other things going on in my house. Now Im extremely aware of the symptoms and dont mess with them. New brand name cells are cheap when you consider the performance they deliver and how many cycles they can provide if operated within specs.

If you visit the HF store, search online reviews before buying anything and make sure you understand their return policy. I wonder if they sell those juice squeezing bowels? Then Boaz can buy an entire case to decorate his home!

the light I hate to Love

look at that cockeyed pocket clip, it works great on my hat
look at that marred anodyzing, Im supposed to be gaga for copper
look at that NW Low CRI, Low R9 LED, Im supposed to be a Tint and CRI snob
look at that AssPherIc lens, everyone hates it, but I love it
let me tell you about the terrible UI, I have to hold to turn it off

yet, I sold my Copper Olight S Mini, that has no battery check
sold my Olight S1 Mini High CRI, that has low R9 and too narrow a beam for my headlamp use
I could buy a Ti Olight S Mini, and end up with Low R9, Low CRI, no battery check and too narrow a beam. I dont need to suffer any more today, so my wallet is happy

I dont know what happened, but I seem to care less and less about all those super snobby details like tint, CRI, Noble Metals, and Hot spots

the Utorch S1 Mini NW showed me that “it does not matter in actual use”, any light is better than NoLight

now about those can openers, mine works fine, dont need no stinkin P38, in fact I mostly buy cans that pull open without need for a tool

and lime squeezers, no press and spin for me, the Mexican LimeSquashers work the best, even though they suck for oranges!
