The Acebeam t21vn for Patrol/self defence work- is hotspot too small?

Just brought a Klarus XT32 with 1200lm, 250,000cd for patrol/self defence usage. At the time no other stock tactical LED for it’s size put out much more cd.
Then looking at the modded Acebeam with it’s huge throw but smallish lumens, wondering how the hotspot is on this thing? Looks like the throw is a very tight unusable beam.
Far too focused with too little lumens? Also in the need to defend against a close range opponent I think the hotspot is just too small to hit the eyes reliable.

Here is a picture of the beam profile of the T21vn with the Black Flat LED.

beam profile

800 lumens and approaching 700kcd, it does have a pencil beam, but it’s oh so satisfying to use. At 8 feet away, its hotspot is 4 inches in diameter, while its corona is around 12 inches. By comparison, at the same distance, a Zebralight SC600 MK3 HI’s hotspot is 18 inches in diameter, and its corona is too diffused for me to measure.

Having said that, if you’re using any flashlight for self defense, you’re not doing yourself a service. Go and get yourself some pepper spray instead.

Thanks for the pic & distance, gives me an idea.

About what you said with pepper spray. Sorry but far too much misinformation outthere about how unusable flashlights & headlamps are in self defence. Not going to get into those arguments because in real world there are dozens of factors.

“Deterrent” May be a better word
