Just wondering why create a new brand instead of just using the Xtar name? Is AllMaybe the premium line and Xtar the economny line?

Seriously? AllMaybe is just awful! Facepalm

Why not call it “Xtar Counterfeit”. That sounds much better! Thumbs Up

Perhaps the existing “AllmaybeDirect” AMZ storefront wasn’t good enough, or they just like to duplicate not only brands, but stores?

Ormaybe (get it?! Big Smile ) there are multiple “official” stores like on Aliexpress?

It's a sister brand of XTAR.

I agree, maybe it loses something in the translation, if not they need to fire whoever came up with that name.

I cannot understand why it never seems to occur to Chinese companies to run things past a native English speaker, before unleashing them on the worldwide market. It’s not like native English speakers are hard to come by, you don’t even have to pay anyone, just slip it into a discussion forum and read the comments.

Beam me up!

I am sorry to agree with the above comments about the uninspired brand name. May be means it may happen or not… like “maybe this light will work” or “maybe the specs are right” or… It just does not inspire confidence IMO.

Anyway, it’s not the first bizarre Chinese company name we see, and i’m sure we’ll see many more. Facepalm

I have to agree with a lot of sentiment here. Who the F’ is coming up with this name. This has to be one of the worst names I’ve heard in a while. It sounds like a joke you would find in some spoof commercial.

XTAR… cancel this Brand Name now!!!!!!!! It really “really” is a stupid name in English. Before you waste more money on this name *CANCEL IT. * I’m trying to help you. I love your products, I don’t want to see you make a stupid mistake.

Sorry you wasted your money on a stupid name, I think you need a much better review process at the top levels of your company. The fact that something like this could get approved is a very poor sign of you company’s ability at global operations and branding.

Hmm, I have no idea why everyone’s getting all worked up over the name.

Checked, I bought a few WK50s from AllmaybeDirect offa Amazon a coupla years ago, and they had excellent customer service. I don’t care if they call themselves CrankyBaby or TotalTaco, if they can deliver the goods, I’ll buy from them.

Allkiddingaside, I have one of the chargers in question, and it’s just another XTAR charger with a different name.

But, I’ve had sort of a morbid curiosity about the whole thing since I first sought an English version of the ET1, and the XTAR folks pointed me in the right direction to the Allmaybe TC2. It was good enough to sell to the home market as an XTAR, but not to the rest of the world, and the sole model marketed that way. There is also an Allmaybe branded version of the MC4, but it does not preclude the original XTAR version.

Allmaybe is not a new brand; it was registered in 2016, and has been selling other products since. I’m not sure if it was acquired, or started within.

What has changed, just in the last couple months, is that the company is apparently making a push to establish this brand, by adding other new models exclusive to it, and revealing a new logo (which reminds me of a title card from a bad 80’s sci-fi movie), and now stepping up the promotion.

With the XTAR brand well-established, with a solid reputation and wide distribution, the question would be — why? Instead of expanding it with the other products like the wall adapters and cables, which would seem to natural companions, they’ve given themselves the challenge to build a new (of formerly dormant?) brand, aimed at the same segments.

Now, assuming that AllmaybeDirect was their Amazon store, they’ve also created a second seller, Ouimaybi. Doubling up seems to be a common theme.

As someone with a marketing background, and a follower of business and industry, I find it fascinating.

With respect to their support, I can only offer my experience. The XTAR folks were quite communicative when I first contacted them. After receiving the charger, I contacted Allmaybe directly with some followup questions. Its “support@allmaybe.com” address does not accept connections, even to Gmail, and their DNS isn’t configured to redirect pings to their webserver if one neglects to include the “www” subdomain prefix, which results in an error page from their host, making it seem like the site is down.

I then tried to ping the XTAR folks I had communicated with before, but never received any reply, so sorry HKJ, I did in fact try to ask them to provide you with a review unit.

The charger is fine, and I’m generally pleased with the outcome, but the rest is more than a bit of a mystery.

It might be a an awkward attempt to say “all may be” as in “all can be” as in “everything is possible”.

Still, even for english speakers who are accustomed to buying from Chinese brands/suppliers, this name is still pretty bad

ALLMAYBE brand is a new brand of Shenzhen XTAR Electronics Co., Ltd, however, they are complementary. Together, people will be benefit from the diversity and have more options to choose. Two brands share the same people, same factories and are with the same trusted quality that you can rely on.
