Mecarmy New Releasing: Dual Color Temperature AA/14500 Flashlight

I guess most people will use it with the 14500 Li-ion battery that ships with the light, but it’s pretty neat that it can also be used with a commonly available AA battery in an emergency.

Certainly a handsome light. Like other’s, I don’t see the point of dual emitters

I think dual emitters - if they were actually different - could be useful. The difference between NW and CW is too small to be useful at all IMHO. I said this in the poll thread HERE.

For dual white emitters, it should have been warm and cool, so the “blend” would land around neutral. This neutral/cool combo doesn’t do anything for me. Apparently, lots of at least some people agree.

First I have to say that this is indeed a very nice looking light, with the attractiveness that MecArmy usually releases!!!

About the emitters, some members may have seen it there, while others don’t, so I will post this here!

There is/was a thread to “choose” the combination of LEDs for this light!

Cool white + Neutral white = 12% (9 votes)
Cool white + UV (Comment the wave length) = 3% (2 votes)
Cool white + Red = % (1 vote)
Neutral white + UV = % (30 votes)
Neutral white + Red = % (34 votes)
UV + Red = % (0 votes)

These are the voting results that can be seen on the #1 post on that thread.

This week the OP mentioned that the light had been released. When questioned about the “options” for this light’s emitters, this was the answer, on this post :

These quotings and references are just to frame the “work” discussion about this light!

It seems an excellent flashlight, despite the UI and the price may be a drawback. :confounded:
But I love those options in colours

EDIT: DavidEF beat me on this :stuck_out_tongue:

I really hope this light can be modded! Cool/neutral seems like a very boring combination. High CRI and UV on the other hand….

Advertised retail price ($89.90) might be considered as reasonable for the Titanium version, but for the Aluminum version, definitely not.

Emitters (as of current choice) should be within $8 (less, if sourced in bigger batches).
I think, driver is also not too complicated, maybe an additional $8-12.
The USB rechargeable battery maybe adds another $6-10.

We have still $60-68 to allocate for flashlight body details/parts…

And, as DavidEF mentioned, the emitters are not special (not one or both of them). They are just ‘plain old’ XP-L.

And IMO, blending different CCT emitters does not make sense, if they are of poor CRI, because the given wavelength intervals, which are already suffering a loss due to uneven emission characteristics, will be just blended to produce an even poorer experience. (XP-L has max. 75CRI emitters for 5000K CCT, max. 80CRI emitters for 4000K CCT, and max. 90CRI for 3000K CCT – the CW emitter (and maybe the NW as well) which is used now, is probably a 70CRI one, as no CRI ratings were specified).

This shiny flashlight body would deserve at least a pair of Nichia 219C emitters (5700K R9050 + 3500K R9050), then blending them would make sense. And for a single AA/14500 light, very few of us would care about the max. output that much (for 14500, 450 lumen per emitter, and 550 lumen when both driven - would be plenty).

So if at least high fidelity / other specialty emitters would have been used, the high price could have been more justified. But as the current status, it is a strong ‘no way’ for me.

I would have liked the same light, both neutral led but one spot, one flood.

I wonder how the led switching works? The idea is great, but I would rather have tir or mule light of this type

I don’t know if this was before the final version was out, but take a look at the video:

Also, please note that one seems CW+NW and the other CW or NW + RED (looking to the leds).

Mecarmy is intending to make a new PS14 production that use dual LEDs - Neutral white+UV or Neutral white+Red. Any of your desired
leds combination please email us at support@mecarmy.com, we will let you know when the special version released.

Custom is supported, if you guys like a group buy of modded version (like high CRI+UV), PM me.

Or… 219C 4500k R9050 and 219B 4000k R9080! Now if it will come apart!

Would be interesting if moddable so we can use our preferred emitters.

Any of your desired
leds combination please email us at support@mecarmy.com, we will let you know when the special version released.

That Titanium grey finish is so good looking!

219B 4000k 9080 for the WW!

1, it could have NW red emitter instead of CW + NW. Usually people who likes NW will never use CW but a red or UV led would be useful

I like the idea of a 219B R9080 and a 219C R9050 for some more brightness. But a red or even UV next to the 219B would not be bad.

We are working on the 219C 4500K R9050. Will show you guys the prototype once done.

I notice a few people don’t see any use for dual emitter with different tints, but for me personally a dual tint light is a really great idea, especially in a single AA light, because indoors I prefer warm white but outdoors I prefer neutral white, so a WW / NW switchable light would be perfect for me.

I’m actually quite surprised that no one else seems to share my opinion, as it hasn’t been mentioned here and wasn’t one of the choices in the other thread.

Maybe WW / CW combination would work if having both on at once would emit a neutral beam, (As DavidEF has suggested several times) although I’m not sure the combined beam would actually be neutral.

But $90.00 is way off the hook for a small light like this, at least for me.
