Was it mentioned somewhere that there would be an improvement made to decrease the ramping time in the latest productions?

It doesn’t appear anything has been changed, the 2 most recent reviews on Amazon (May 13 & May 11) both stated the ramping is slow.

.

My kit should be delivered Monday, so no worries, but would anyone have an idea when the light-only (currently listed as “backordered”) might be shipped?

Tnx!

I have a new one and it’s still around 6 seconds. But I don’t find it intolerable at all, especially with memory. Then you are only ramping part way one direction or the other. Plus, with 4 clicks of the button, the light goes into a 4 mode operation with no ramping. IMO, with good mode spacing, ramping is unnecessary anyway.

I personally think it’s a excellent light for the money. The light really works well when you replace the emitter with a XPL HI. I replaced the XPL, with a 20mm noctigon and a 5000k XPL-HI.

I have a TK05 also, and plan on swapping to a 5000k 219C

None of the products are showing up as the price shown in this thread. Why is that?

This is a special discount given for this group buy. Majority of the time, prices are not shown publicly as seller prefer it this way. I can send you the actual price if you are keen.

Just got my kit today (light-only still hasn’t shipped). Yeah, 6sec seems like forever… maybe I got spoiled on my Q8s.

Thing is, if it were visually linear, I wouldn’t mind it at all, but it’s got the same issue that people keep pissing’n’moaning about the RJ02 headlamps, that they linger forever in the high end of the range, without much visual change most of the way, and then fly through the lower end.

I might do like with the SP32A, and turn off ramping and stick with discrete steps.

But yeah, it’s absolutely a nice light! Was debating trying to cancel the backordered light-only, but I’m glad I didn’t. I’ll wait.

Sounds good. Still waiting for the light only. I see they sent me some points cuz of the manufacturing hold-up.

How is it compared with SP32A?

I received my order 2 days ago but i was busy taking care of my family. If you have any questions regarding TK18, do post in her and I will try to ask them for the next 6hrs.

My main grex about the ’32A is its ramping mode which has the discrete pause in the middle of the range. Ie, it’ll ramp up halfway, pause, then ramp up the rest of the way. And v/v. Otherwise it’s a nice light, too, but I haven’t compared the two side-by-side or anything. I think (if I recall right) that the ’32A has a logarithmic ramping, so it’s visually “linear”, like the Q8.

It’s handy if you want to know when is “halfway” if you want to conserve power (ie, don’t go above half), etc., but to me, I’m just not used to it.

Both lights are hella bright, though, so you really can’t go wrong with either one if you must must must have ramping.

I have both.
They’re both great lights but IMO they have slightly different uses. I think you have to decide if you like (or need) a dual switch light or not, the SP32A only has a side switch.

The TK18 is a larger light. (slightly longer, thicker and heavier) The SP32A is a more compact size for pocket carry.

If your interest in these is for the ramping UI the main difference is ramping speed, it’s about double on the TK18 (about 3 seconds vs 6-7 seconds)
The mid ramp pause on the SP32A isn’t an issue for me, yes it’s noticable but not a long pause, the whole ramp is only about 3 seconds.

I haven’t done a side by side beam/throw comparison but the TK18 has a bigger reflector that’s OP, and the SP32A’s smaller reflector is SMO.

One final consideration is if you would like to have the option to convert to an 18350 shorty light, the SP32A fits the Convoy/Jaxman 18350 tube and makes a great shorty.
The TK 18 is a better tactical light because of it’s tail switch, which is also a forward switch for momentary on.

If you prefer a dual switch light that’s smaller the Thorfire VG15S is a dual switch light that’s exactly the same size as the SP32A.

Lightbringer and beam0, thanks a lot for your thoughts. I have SP32A so I kind of get some picture for that. It seems promising.
I hope that Thorfire decrease the ramping as beam0 suggested. That would make ramping function more useful to real use.
